Through May 31
WOMEN LAUGHING ALONE WITH SALAD Alleyway Theatre/Post-Industrial Productions
The dichotomy of Women Laughing Alone with Salad shows up in the very beginning.
Its three good looking, well-dressed women Meredith (Emily Yancey), Sandy (Alyssa Walsh-Morris) and Tori (Madeline Allard-Dugan) eating salad, when a guy comes on stage with a bag of food and opens it to show real food.
Director Andrea Gollhardt has staged the scene so the women are looking at the food in the hand of Guy (Andrew J. Brown) and his butt, all hungrily.
Thats kind of the practice in the play, sex and food, probably why no-one under 18 is allowed in.
In former days, after sex, men and women would reach for cigarettes.
Here, the reach is for salad.
Now, do women eat more salad than men?
Perhaps.
Is there research?
This is all about that endless quest for personal satisfaction, both in food and sex.
And, there is certainly a lot of quest on the stage for this Sheila Callaghan play.
Maybe one of the local theaters could have loaned a steam machine for this show, just to make it all clear.
There are a lot of roles here, for four performers, as they switch age and characters and dont change motivations much.
Its entertaining and Gollhardt has a good cast to work with and the Alleyway main stage is a good size for a relatively small cast.
Even after seeing the show, my quest for salad remains limited.
Women Laughing Alone with Salad is worth your time.
