The SPCA Serving Erie County is continuing its Tale for Two reading sessions through the summer, encouraging children ages six through 16 to read aloud to adoptable animals at the SPCA. Shelter animals benefit from the increased socialization that generally results in lowered stress levels, while young readers work on literacy skills, building their confidence and self-esteem.

June 26 – September 13, 2023, children can be registered for one 30-minute reading session per week. Sessions are available Mondays and Wednesdays, 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., and take place at the SPCA’s 300 Harlem Rd., West Seneca location. The registration fee for the summer session is $55 per child.

The SPCA is also offering a Tale for Two Summer Reading Challenge. Children who read five books and write five summaries will be entered in a prize drawing, and children who read 10 books and write 10 summaries will receive a completion certificate, an SPCA shirt, and will be entered in a prize drawing. Prizes will be announced at a later date.

Children can read from their own reading materials or make a selection from the SPCA’s library.
