2008 Taste of Buffalo

Put a fork in it.

The countdown is on for the 2008 Taste of Buffalo, the second largest food festivals in the country and one of Western New York’s signature events of the summer.

Rain or shine, the Taste, celebrating its 25th anniversary, is slated for July 12 and 13. Thousands of men, women and children will hit Delaware Avenue from McKinley Square to Chippewa in downtown Buffalo to sample food from 60 area restaurants, the largest turnout of eateries in the quarter-century history of the event. That list includes 14 new restaurants and seven wineries, a new high for that category too.

Taste chairman Kevin Cavalieri, a bank vice-president by day, tells me that a stage on Delaware on the south side of Niagara Square will feature for the first time a cooking demo by Shayna Raichilson-Zadok, who was a contestant on Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen.” Also new this year: $1 samples at each restaurant.

Celebrating “Fun by the Forkful” isn’t a mere food frenzy. Cavalieri says some of the proceeds are donated to several local charities: Meals on Wheels, Hospice Buffalo, Beechwood Continuing Care and the National Kidney Foundation.

I look forward to seeing my fellow foodies at the Taste. I’m hitting the treadmill hard for the next two months so I can be among the gluttonous grazers on July 12 and 13th.
See you there!
