ECMC Resolution

Tomorrow, the main stream media will be reporting on the Erie County Leg's vote on the Sales tax extension, but just as important as that vote was, a resolution that passed which says (basically) that the leg is completely opposed to the dissolution of the PBC and remains committed to keeping ECMC public.

This is huge!! Understand, that in order for Mr. Gioia to accomplish the full asset merger between ECMC and Kaleida Health that he wishes to complete, he needs to have legislation to dissolve the Public Benefit Corporation that is ECMC. There is a very specific process for this, and it involves the Erie County legislature passing a home rule asking for the PBC to be dissolved, and the State passing legislation actually carrying out this act.

Given the fact that the Erie County leg passed a resolution saying the complete opposite of what is needed to dissolve the PBC, I think it is safe to say that Gioia needs to reevaluate his goals when it comes to ECMC. Bottom line is, ECMC is staying public!!! Good for this community!!
