Politician Press Releases
WIRTH TO RUN FOR ERIE COUNTY LEGISLATURE
By Brian D. Wirth
May 20, 2009, 06:49

(West Seneca, Cheektowaga NY) West Seneca Republican Chairman Brian D. Wirth announces his candidacy for the Erie County Legislature’s 9th Legislative District Seat.

‘The 9th Legislative District encompassing all of West Seneca and the majority of South Cheektowaga deserves better. Fleeing businesses have been the catalyst for the local economic and population decline. The local tax burden under this condition is unsustainable. While people continue to leave, taxes continue to rise. Erie County is in desperate need of legislation to counter act this trend. The message, we can do more with less must be resurrected.”

“The obvious truth couldn’t be more visible than by the appalling view of empty store fronts in nearly every area of the district. Until this issue is properly addressed, families will continue to settle elsewhere leaving Erie County to continue on the downward spiral.”

Wirth, a registered Republican will seek the Republican, Conservative and Independence Party endorsements.

Wirth admits the race will be tough citing a nearly two to one Democratic enrollment overlay within the district, but boasts confidence that the voters will put politics aside in support of a candidate with a precise plan for progress.

“This campaign will be hard fought in the face of tough opposition, but it is a race that will be won on the door step of every voter as I have committed myself to a regimented grassroots campaign.”

“It is time for our elected officials to give back and lead by example. The taxpayers whom have remained in Erie County can no longer afford to pay these absurd salaries nearing close to $43,000 a year coupled with full benefits for a part time position. It is also time to reduce the size of the Legislature in conjunction with the depletion of population. The taxpayers are in need of leadership on these initiatives.”

Wirth, a 30year old Husband and Father of two small children can relate with the struggle of making ends meet on a tight budget. Working two jobs, one as a Realtor at his family owned business Metro Sandra Lee Wirth Realtor and the other as a public servant with the Erie County Public Works Division of Highways.

“As a businessman and a public employee, I realize the need for a healthy balance between the private and the public sector. A delicate equilibrium must be maintained to achieve a desirable community and healthy place of commerce that will recruit new business and young families.”

“It’s nice to see that the Legislature has finally been able to temporarily resolve the issue with the bond agreement, but the old adage of a dollar short and a day late comes to mind. The County’s infrastructure is in serious disrepair largely to do with the Legislature’s inability to act and the number of obstacles erected by excessive layers of government. The spinning wheels political environment within the Legislature is not conducive to the attraction of new business.”

Wirth explains that much of his policy making will come from lessons learned through his life long association with Realtor initiatives. Stating he’s been around it since the days he couldn’t even see over the desk in his Grandmother’s office. Wirth believes a lucrative real estate market is a sure fire way to stimulate growth within the area.
“The real estate market in Western New York has been under the proverbial bubble. As a blessing in disguise, we did not see the major fluctuation in property values as did other markets, first on the upswing and most recently the plummeting of prices through the floor. In my opinion, this has postured Erie County in an advantageous position to the attraction of new business, if we address the overbearing tax burden.”

Wirth believes the key to victory will rest upon his ability to spread his message. He also says,” the voters overwhelmingly took the first step in the right direction with the election of the savvy business minded County Executive Chris Collins. It is now time to put in place the people ready to work with the County Executive in the Legislature.”

“As I set out to represent the citizens of the 9th District and Erie County, I look forward to promoting my pro-business and fiscally conservative ideology through a sound and intense personal contact campaign.
