At their regular meeting on Monday, April 26, 2004, the Lancaster village board signaled their intent to continue the reconciliation process that began last week. At a joint meeting of the town and village boards, village trustee Jeff Stribing attempted to start talks between the municipalities police consolidation transition committees. While the town baulked at the idea, they did offer the village an alternative. They told the village that if they put their concerns in writing, the town would consider them.

Jeff Stribing said the joint meeting accomplished some good because it brought the two boards together for the first time since hostilities over the transfer of services began.

During Monday nights meeting, trustee Stribbing asked the board to authorize village attorney Arthur A. Herdzik and attorney Paul Weiss to write a letter to the town outlining the village’s concerns.

Some of the village’s concerns include:

• Assumptions made in the figures plugged into the formulas to compute the $990,000 for benefits owed to former village officers, of which $729,000 is still outstanding.

• The village’s concern over the apportionment of sales tax revenue.

• Solving the crossing guard issue, by requesting the town remove their crossing guards from their police budget.

Trustee Stribing offered a motion to approve the action and the village board unanimously voted its assent. By taking this action, the village board demonstrated its willingness to work within the perimeters of the town’s offer to review written proposals.
