The items used have been changed - maybe the formula's used havent changed but some of the areas/items used have changed.

"Google" the information on: The Boskin Commission, " Advisory Commission to Study the Consumer Price Index ” , President Clinton and Chained CPI. While you are looking for information goodle the information on President Obama and Chained CPI proposals. Michael Boskin is an economist who taught at Stanford and was associated with the Hoover Institution and was a director on the board of Oracle Inc. Your social security payments and formulas were attacked and changed by Clinton, you know the family interested in the vast middle class. I can remember reading commentary on the Boskin Commission's ideas by Barry Ritholtz who writes for the WSJ and William Fleckenstein who wrote , "Greenspan's Bubble, The Age of Ignorance at the Federal Reserve." In that book he wrote a chapter explaining how this "chained CPI" was an attack on the middle and lower class families
in retirement. These men are hardly liberals out of the Bernie Sanders camp of socialism. Before you believe everything that Hillary is saying about her middle class worries and values even Obama, her friend and boss, was advocating further use of the "chained CPI" and couple of years ago. Social Security is not a " right" for American families but a political decision.

• Not giving large payout increases in SS is an attack on the middle class
  
• Giving unnecessary payout increases that allows it to go bankrupt faster is totally OK, but we'll still find a way to blame the Clintons or Obama for it.
  
• Even if similar changes were made during the Reagan administration, we'll still find a way to blame the Clintons and Obama.
