Recently I attended the wake of another victim of the notorious Erie County Holding Center (ECHC). There was a time this was happening so frequently one would think they have a deathlist. One article published in March 2010 charged them with a “suicide rate five times the national average.” Indeed cases like that of Richard Metcalf (11/30/12) raise strong suspicion of outright murder. This reminds me of how not to get TB, screw up your family, get beat up, and not to suicide.

Remember this is just county jail, not penitentiary. Most of these people haven't been ruled guilty of anything. While quite a few of the cases seem to be based on addiction or drunken-bouts I haven't heard talk of "child molester" or "murderer" with any of the ones who died.

It's a holding center. They hold all kinds there. The county jail is in Alden.
