The internet completely changed how "news" content is delivered to the market. Same goes when television went to a cable delivery system versus a few stations with high powered transmitters. There are only so many dollars to be spent in advertising. When you went from 3 main channels to 150+ channels those dollars were divided up leaving less for each "station"
Think about it. Anyone with a internet connection, a camera and content can now "broadcast" on the internet. A news paper is one form of content delivery which now competes against multiple content delivery systems.
