Of course satire is protected. What would be the point of only protecting non-controversial speech that everybody agrees with? The statement, "Byron Brown is the current mayor of Buffalo" doesn't need much constitutional protection because it's not disputable except, of course, by the guy with the long, dirty beard and the collection of gin bottles outside his cardboard abode under a viaduct in South Buffalo who insists that he's the current Mayor of Buffalo ...

I'm beginning to think this is all truly new to you. It has nothing to do with lawyers. It's a mixture of commentary and humor. It's not about freedom of the press... it's freedom of speech. Have you ever seen or heard about 'The Onion' satire newspaper, "Weekend Update" on Saturday Night Live, or for that matter "A Modest Proposal"?
