It will slowly fade into our collective memories - by design !

Its a felony to hit a law officer - yet if a law officer hits a taxpayer, its just part of the job !

""The government has to show that the police officer acted with specific intent to use more force than was reasonably necessary under the circumstances. You can't prosecute a police officer for making a mistake or even for a lack of judgment," said William Yeomans, a former acting head of the Civil Rights Division"

Could this officer have remained in his vehicle and called for back up - did he need to reengage the perp (after what happened in the car) - could he have acted differently - we weren't there - we will never know !
    -
First off - he's trained to be aggressive "Take and maintain control" - he is taught to over whelm the perp - he's not taught to back off and reassess.

One young man is dead - One Police Officer has irrevocably changed his own life and the lives of all concerned.

Time to reassess the training and culture of our law enforcement officers. They are being supplied with heavy weapons, armored vehicles and military style training - is this what we as tax payers want them to be - Heavily armed extensions of our Military - are they actually a "Para Military Group" ?

Its bad enough they have to deal with personal, political, crime and other stressors like we all do - then they are taught day after day - "Its us against Them" -

I don't view their job that way - but then again I still remember Cops that walk the beat - talked to neighbor hood kids like they cared - not to groom snitch's - they didn't pull you over after tailgating you for miles "Because you acted suspicious" -

    What's happening to these guys/gals today -

    You're an idiot.

What is needed is a better selection and continuing review process to weed out the short fuses and megalomaniacs. Some people simply aren't qualified to be LEO's because of their personality. And those personality traits are usually easily recognized or discovered if they are a priority.
