How come their hero took a plea deal? I thought it was his constitutional right to have that sign? Why did he cut and run?

The headline should read "Homeowner admits law doesn't violate his free speech rights."
No, he found a clever way to exercise his rights while avoiding the threat of jail time and violence from a group of fascist town board members. This issue is not put to bed.

But if "There is no question that the three signs constitute political speech protected by the First Amendment" then he would not have any threat of jail to avoid would he? Apparently there is some question that the signs don't constitute protected free speech. question enough that he was worried about being thrown in jail for being a common criminal.

And it figures you would think a childish temper tantrum was "clever" - what impresses the children is just an annoyance to adults.

Usually they offer a "Plea deal" because the true question is if their intended actions would stand the test of a higher courts scrutiny. So they pretend to offer you a way out. They know you cant take the financial strain - they fear a higher court review and this way they can spin the media coverage to their advantage.

He (the Hamburg resident) took a plea deal because when the judge - lawyers and the legal system is mostly controlled by the same tax funded people - when those writing and rewriting codes/laws are mostly tax funded/loyal "Party Players", like you nogods -

What choice does the average tax paying person have?

He will be dragged to the bank by his costs to defend himself - he will be treated as a "Common criminal" by his elected and appointed officials and falsely portrayed by the media.

So, its some times better to remove your self with a plea deal as offered by those pursuing you.

The pursuers have unlimited tax funded resources to use against you. The pursuers have Party bias media to report on you. They own the law enforcement players - take the deal - they chalk it up as a win and your allowed to continue on your way.

If you don't concede - they continue to pursue and harass you and the nogods of our society get fat checks.
#Dems play musical chairs + patronage and nepotism = entitlement !

Generally, yes, unless, of course, he lives in a subdivision with an HOA that prohibits all signs. Most local governments do NOT get involved with regulating signs on private property except for general things like size, number, type (ie, lighted etc), blocking traffic sight-lines, etc. So, a town might allow 1 or 2 signs on a front lawn but say "no more than 5".

Contrary to what Vampy thinks, the constitutional principle of free speech generally applies only to content. You do NOT have an absolute constitutional right to drape your fence with any sign or litter your lawn with 100 signs. You do have an absolute constitutional right to put your opinion on any sign that is legally able to be put where it is located.

For example, Jamestown does NOT allow any signs in the tree lawn (ie the strip between the sidewalk and the curb). It doesn't matter if it's a sign for a political candidate or cause or a sign for Legally Blonde the Musical or "Walk 4 Paws".

A sad day for Hamburg residents: Free speech taken away; paying a superintendent with unethical behavior to resign instead of terminating him.

Hardly. Nobody's stopping him from putting up a sign that's legally located.

So martyrdom for "constitutional rights" has a price-tag? ROTFLMAO.
