BTW, I"m wondering who the veep running mate McCain will select. I'm leaning towards Huckabee (needs those conservatives) but I could see him with both Lieberman and Kerry (should Hillary get the nod).

The day after results didn't conform with the projections. Which is okay.

Remember, yesterday.... McCain was supposed to have the nomination wrapped up.

    Oh well...

I like Huckabee as his vp but does he really need to appease the conservatives? Would they vote for Obama or Clinton over him? I would say Lieberman might be a better fit to get some of the independent and left votes that he will need.

Going with Huckabee to "appease" conservatives would likely cost McCain independent votes without gaining much from the conservatives. On the other hand, going with Lieberman seems to be setting up a "pro Iraq war" ticket that will turn off many voters.

If yesterday's election was any indication, then yes Huckabee would bring in the conservative vote, looked what he did to Romney. However, there has been rumor that Lindsay Graham might consider the position.

IMO, McCain signifies the 'left side' of the Republican party and already garners many independent votes, he needs to capture the Republican base which is more conservative, thus looking for someone like Huckabee or Graham.

For him to grab a Lieberman or Kerry, IMO his strategy would be to take away Democratic and more independents away from the Democratic candidate, while expecting more conservative voters to stay home.

I'm not sure if either strategy would work but if I was him I'd stick to picking up the Republican base.
