    A new downtown

So BP posted last week about how a new Bills Dome would look downtown. Basically what he did is overlay the current outline of the Ralph over the first ward. Parking and all. While this made his point, it was inaccurate. So I started to play with Google Earth.....

First thing I did is look up Ford Field in Detroit. The footprint of FF is around 900X1200. This is around the same footprint of South Park Ave, Louisiana Ave, Chicago Street to the 90. So I did an image overlay of it in Google Earth. I also laid the field house in OP in the space North of South Park, East of Marvin, West of Chicago and South of Perry. It also fit into the city grid.

Then I went looking for a Convention Center. I looked up the Moscone Center in San Francisco. This has pretty much the same footprint of Ford Field at 900X1200. This is the same footprint of South Park Ave, Chicago St, Louisiana Ave and an extended Oconnell Ave to the Buffalo River. So I did an image overlay of it in Google Earth.

I then went and found the image for the new casino and laid that over the projected site.

I next went and took a section of Millennium Park from Chicago and placed that between Hamburg Street and Fitzgerald Street and south of South Park ave.

I then started to play around with Seashore an image editing tool. I laid out a street grid for most of the 1st ward. North of South Street, South of the 90, West of Fitzgerald all the way to the Cobblestone district.

The areas marked in Orange are for Residential units. MID RISE RESIDENTIAL UNITS with first floor retail.

The areas marked in Blue are for Commercial units. MID to HIGH RISE COMMERCIAL. I made Mackinaw a large boulevard connecting the park at Hamburg to the foot of the convention center. No mistake in fronting this blvd with a "commercial district" .

The areas marked in Grey are for parking ramps and surface lots. I used parking as a buffer from the 90 to Perry Street and this would be more then enough for a game or event. Especially when you consider a possible Metro extension.

The areas marked in Red are for HOTELS. As you can see there are two hotel sites next door to the new casino and dome and convention center. The first site is south of South Park Ave, east of Michigan, north of Ohio and west of Moore St. The second is next door and is south of South Park, east or Moore, West of Chicago and north west of Michigan.

The areas marked in Green is for park space. As you can see there is a 800ft buffer from Fitzgerald to Hamburg and from the 90 south all the way to the river. There is also a continuous buffer of green space all along the river and a large park below the convention center which already exists in a larger form today.

The lines marked in Pink is for the metro. The first thing I did was extend the metro all the way down South Park from Main to the new park area at Hamburg. I feel this should be a tunnel if ever done. Also, if they ever do it, they should continue to go underground all the way up main. The next pink line is the 1st ward loop. It goes from Perry to Hamburg to South to Louisiana. This would service everything in the "new first ward" including the dome and convention center.

So when people say "it will not fit" or "it will not work" or "it is not a good use of this land" I CALL BS! Not saying this would ever be done or could ever be done but if it were, it would make Buffalo a world class city.

I like it and respect your effort.

Is the unmarked area in the middle supposed to be where the actual stadium would be, with stadium parking??
That actually meshes pretty well, extending the "city" into the Ward......
Let me articulate this for you:

And I guess it's hard to see looking straight down, but where's General Mills?
The Portion that says "FORD" on the roof is where the stadium is! General mills in the peninsula behind it.

    I found the Mill.
That part that says Ford is a frozen food distributor (Can't remeber the name).

did anything happen with Freezer Queen, on the waterfront??

I know that place (Ford logos) does alot of business, and would need to be relocated to an existing freezer...

Shoot, on second look, I'm not sure that IS where that is.....

Above the Pink Line, which is South Park, is Ford Field. Below the Pink line is the Convention center. The field house is between Ford Field and the casino on South Park. The Freeze facility is closer to the cobblestone district and is actually going to be converted to a loft residential unit. I was used by Rich products but has been empty for years and does not serve a purpose today.

The new dome would only take the Perry Projects land.

As long as not penny one of tax money is used, then do it up.
The difference between taxes and robbery is the mode of coercion.

The only freezer building is at 199 Scott Street and was The Fairmont Creamery and later used by Rich Products for refrigerated storage. It has been empty since the mid 90's.

It is next door to the Elk Lofts and is being done by Ellicott Development.

Wel, either you're mistaken or we're talking about two different places.
This would be on Perry St, right off of Michigan

A little short sighted don't you think? I find it funny how people are against tax money for development but have no problem with bloated government and programs using tax dollars.

Development GROWS the tax base. It just takes a little vision. Maybe you need to clean your glasses.

    UMMM....

Bound by Perry and Scott, Michigan and Market?
That looks like a possibility for what you are talking about and about 4 blocks to the east of where you originally thought. It is across the street from the proposed Casino.

I see. It's the building between the 190 and Perry, and Harriet Tubman and Chicago St.

Come come come on...... Be realistic pullleeeeeaaaaazzzeeeeeee

    Take a look at mapquest:

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...y=US&geodiff=1

Much of that area is being used. There is no way anyone in there right mind would allow demolishing of all those buildings plus relocate just to put in a stadium and redevelop that area.

I could see if there was nothing there it would an ideal spot but without even stepping foot on the ground there I would say it would bcost about 7 billion dollars to do what you are dreaming of.

We cannot even demolish the aud without all these major bottlenecks or build a peace bridge plaza... Good luck on selling this idea especially because we have a stadium that might not be polished but better than nothing.........

    V E T O V E T O V E T O V E T O V E T O V E T O

Hillary would not be the only one who almost was held hostage.......

There is nothing wrong with a good vision but realistically there are so many things that are going south in this area that even a vision of an Angel is nothing but blackness.... HSBC data center.... What data center....... Oh uhmmm we are not going to build that just now and if we were we doubt it would be at the location we said it was going to be at.... Uhmmmmmm
Excuse me now.... More egg nog anyone......
