Falls man wounded in drive-up shooting

A Niagara Falls man was shot and wounded Monday afternoon in the area of 13th Street and LaSalle Avenue.

The victim, who was wounded in early October in a home invasion, was shot once in the leg. The wound is not believed to be life threatening.

Falls Police detectives said the victim was walking when a car with tinted windows pulled up and a man got out.

“Words were exchanged,” Falls Detective Capt. Ernest Palmer said. “And the suspect fired one time.”

The victim ran from the scene before collapsing in the 1200 block of 13th Street.

The suspect got back in the car, which was last seen heading east on LaSalle Avenue.

    City man killed in shooting

    Niagara Gazette

A 31-year-old Weston Avenue man was fatally shot after confronting three people at his front door Thursday night.

Falls Detective Capt. Ernest Palmer said the incident occurred about 8:20 p.m. at 2468 Weston Ave.

The man’s wife told police a woman came to the door and asked for another woman. As the wife was telling the woman there was no one at the house by that name, two men tried to storm in through the open door.

One of the men put a gun to the wife’s head as she called for her husband. Separating his wife from the men, the husband was shot as he struggled with them, Palmer said. Several shots were fired, he said, and the man was hit in the upper torso.

The three suspects, described as a black female and two black men, fled the home and witnesses at the scene said police were looking for a white Ford.

Palmer noted that Thursday night’s violence was unusual for that part of the city.

“This is usually a quiet neighborhood,” he said.

Falls man shot again by same suspect

Accused shooter is bailed from jail and immediately goes after his victim

    By Rick Pfeiffer
    Niagara Gazette

A Falls man and his sister are behind bars, charged in the shooting of a man just 90 minutes after the gunman had been bailed out of jail on a charge of shooting the same victim just over a month ago.

Christopher R. Washington, 24, 901 Cedar Ave., Apt. 18, is charged with second-degree assault, His sister, Selena Washington, 32, 836 Chilton Ave. Apt. 1, was also charged with second-degree assault.

Christopher Washington had been arrested and charged on Monday with first-degree burglary and second-degree assault, in connection with a home invasion robbery on Oct. 4. Washington, along with two other men, was accused of storming into a bedroom of a home in the 1100 block of Linwood Avenue at 7:15 a.m. and confronting two people in bed in the room.

The victims, a man and a woman, said Washington and the other men held them at gunpoint with a rifle and a handgun. The suspects demanded money and even when the male victim gave them $260, they still opened fire.

The male victim was shot once in the leg and the female victim suffered a gunshot wound to her knee. Neither of the injuries were life threatening.

Washington was being held in lieu of bail of $5,000, when his sister Selena and a bail bondsman arrived at Falls City Court at 4 p.m. Monday and posted a bond for his release. The bond cost just $436 dollars.

“Selena then apparently drove Christopher to the Hometown Market, where he again confronted (the male shooting victim),” Falls Police Detective Captain Ernest Palmer said. “The victim challenged Chris to a fight, Chris wanted nothing to do with that.”

After leaving the area, Washington returned, minutes later according to police, in a car driven by his sister. This time the confrontation with the victim took place at 13th Street and LaSalle Avenue.

“There were some sticks and bricks thrown at the car,” Palmer said. “Then Chris emerged from the car with a shotgun and fired twice, striking the victim once in the same leg where he’d been shot before.”

Washington and his sister then fled the scene again. Detectives said they quickly focused on the man they had just arrested earlier in day as their suspect.

“The shooter was described as a black male wearing a white shirt with black stripes,’ Palmer said. “And when Chris Washington was bailed out, he was wearing a white shirt with black stripes.”

Washington is now being held without bail on the new charges.

Night of sex and drugs culminates in stabbing

    11/12/2006

NIAGARA FALLS - Police said a man was stabbed outside a Monteagle Ridge apartment Saturday morning after accusing a woman of stealing $200 from him.
The victim, a 56-year-old resident of Niagara Avenue, told police he visited his attacker's apartment to smoke crack and have sex with the woman but then discovered $200 missing from his pants pocket and confronted the woman.

The man left the apartment, slamming the door behind him. The woman, meanwhile, followed, stabbing the man in the head and shoulder in a parking lot area, police said.

The victim drove himself to Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Buffalo, where he received 25 stitches.

Feds say Falls man dealt drugs, guns

Self-styled “gangster” faces lifetime behind bars

    By Rick Pfeiffer
    Niagara Gazette

The art that adorned the walls of Robert Westley’s Lockport Road apartment reflected his view of life.

“You know how you’d go in some people’s homes and they might have a picture of the Pope on the wall?” Falls Narcotics Squad Capt. Morris Shamrock said. “Well, his walls had pictures of the Sopranos and Scarface.”

Now, the man that cops said “wanted to be a gangster” faces up to a lifetime in prison after a federal grand jury indicted him for dealing drugs and guns out of his apartment.

Westley, 20, 2926 Lockport Road, Apt. 1, is charged with unlawful possession with intent to distribute and distribution of a controlled substance, willfully engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license, unlawful possession of a firearm with serial numbers removed or defaced and unlawful possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Narcotics Squad detectives led a raid on Westley’s apartment on Aug. 26. At that time they charged him with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators said they seized more than 1 1/2 ounces of powdered cocaine at the apartment, but they also had developed “intelligence” that indicated that Westley was actively putting guns on Cataract City streets.

Shamrock said Westley was not too particular about who he sold weapons too.

“He had the gangster mentality,” the narcotics squad commander said. “He knew where the guns were going and that they might be used for retaliation (by gang members or drug dealers) or other crimes.”

The narcotics chief said the city is seeing a spike in guns on the street and especially in the hands of drug dealers. On Saturday, detectives raided what was described as a “heavily armed drug house” in the 1300 block of Pierce Avenue.

Detectives seized two loaded rifles and a loaded revolver at that location.

Narcotics investigators are now working closely with agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, because of the number and firepower of the guns they are finding. Shamrock said police are concerned with what appears to be the importing of guns here.

“(The guns) are coming from somewhere and we’re trying to determine where,” he said. “We’re concerned because every search warrant we do now, we’re encountering weapons.”

Shamrock said recent violence in the Falls drug trade, highlighted by the murder Thursday of a Cataract City marijuana dealer, may explain why many dealers are “arming up.”

Westley is also facing charges of second-degree criminal sale of marijuana, unlawful possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct in Niagara Falls City Court. He is accused of giving a baggie of marijuana to a 17-year-old girl after cops stopped the car he was driving in the 1900 block of Mackenna Avenue on Oct. 18.

Officers said they stopped Westley's car because his stereo system was too loud.

Police Charge three in crack house raid

Police seize cash, crack and guns from Pierce Avenue home

Falls police have 3 men in custody after they hit what they called a "heavily armed drug house" on Saturday night. A police SWAT team stormed the home at 1339 1/2 Pierce Avenue at 6:30 p.m., catching the occupants off guard. Officers said the men inside had loaded weapons within easy reach before they were taken into custody.

"We had multiple sources of intelligence that told us there were weapons inside the home," Falls Police Narcotics Squad Captain Morris Shamrock said. "They also told us that the suspects would come to the door to sell their crack, holding their weaons."

Courtney T. Moragne, 25, 1846 Linwood Ave. Claude Jr. Caldwell, 19, 1669 Ontario Ave., and Tywon M. Mallory, 18, 1727 Ashland Ave., were each charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and three counts of criminal possession of a (loaded) weapon."

Investigators said they seized two loaded rifles, a loaded revolver, $600, an ounce of crack cocaine and a police scanner. The raid was made more difficult by security features the suspects had at the house.

"There were surveillance cameras, that had sound capability, outside the house," Shamrock said. "We also were fortunate because they had taken down a metal bar that they used to brace the front door (of the house)."

Shamrock said none of the suspects apparantly lived in the home.

"This is where they did their business," the narcotics squad commander said. "This was a 24-7 operation that not only sold from the house, but they also appeared to be supplying the dealers on the street between 13th (street) and Linwood (Avenue) and 13th (Street) and Whitney (Avenue)."

An agent from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms accompanied Falls cops on the raid. Shamrock said police are concerned with the number of guns they are encountering and, noted many of them are not stolen.

"They (the guns) are coming from somewhere and we're trying to determine where," Shamrock said, "We're concerned because every search warrant we do now, we're encountering weapons."

Shamrock said recent violence in the drug trade, highlighted by the murder Thursday os a Cataract City marijauna dealer may explain why many dealers are "arming up."

Chad M. Egger, 18, of Ferry Avenue, Niagara Falls, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Niagara Falls police said. Police said his car matched the description of a white car wanted in a Lockport shooting. Egger allowed police to search his car, and an unloaded .38-caliber revolver was found under the passenger seat, reports said. Egger said that the gun was not his and that other people had been using the car the day before. Egger was not licensed to carry a firearm.

    Man charged in double-stabbing

A brawl outside a Ferry Avenue tavern early Thursday morning left two men with stab wounds and a Falls man behind bars, charged in the attack.

Demario Rodgers, 25, 1526 LaSalle Ave., pleaded not guilty during an arraignment in Falls City Court on Friday to two counts of second-degree assault and a single count of unlawful possession of marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of bail of $1,200 cash or $2,400 property and is due back in court Dec. 6 with an attorney.

Rodgers is charged with stabbing and slashing two men during a brawl outside Bragg’s Bar, in the 200 block of Ferry Avenue, at 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

The victims, who are related, said Rodgers came up to one of them and began fighting. Rodgers then slashed one victim across his face with what was described as a “razor-type weapon” and then stabbed the other victim in the thigh with the same weapon.

Police, who were nearby, quickly took Rodgers into custody. Rodgers told officers the victims had attacked him and he was defending himself.

Officers said when Rodgers was arrested, they found he had eight marijuana filled baggies in his possession.

Thursday afternoon, officers arrested Michael A. Mylar, 24, 1011 98th St., on first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon charges.

The victim, 28-year-old Charles Jamieson of Niagara Falls, told police he was smoking in the parking lot of Cruiser’s, 9703 Porter Road, when he approached a nearby parked vehicle being operated by a “relative.”

A verbal altercation ensued and the driver pointed a shotgun at Jamieson, who told police he then grabbed the weapon in self-defense. Other cities have drive-by shootings. The Falls has ride-bys.
