OP tax cap protest, with hundreds of statewide support, heads to Albany

The messages started arriving around Christmas and keep coming every day. So far, letters signed by 800 government officials from 211 towns across the state arrived in Orchard Park’s Municipal Center office in support of the town campaign for a more flexible state tax cap.

Supervisor Patrick Keem and Councilman Michael Sherry will drive to Albany Monday and deposit the pile at the governor’s statehouse office in hope that he makes a change as the buget process unfolds starting this week, when Cuomo presents his budget.

“We’re leading the charge,” Keem said.

Wish my towns elected officials would drive to Albany to beg for the ability to "jack up" my taxes even higher.

    You are lucky OP.

Is there a website where the list of those who signed these petitions can be found ?

Does anyone have access to these names - please post them
    - the taxpayers should know which elected officials are campaigning on tax funded time to raise taxes.

Seems like actions that should be made public.

Thumbs down Comment blocked by Buffalo news:

Buffalo News comment section, "We are unable to post your comment because you have been blocked by Disqus".

    My comment they blocked:
"The names of every tax funded elected employee who signed these petitions should be made public. Let the taxpayers know what elected officials are working on tax funded time to raise their taxes. Who are these people working for - they want more tax dollars for their cadillac style tax funded benefits and tax funded pensions.

Look at any Village, Town or City Budget - benefits and pensions are the biggest part of every budget. Not road repair or infra structure. If they want more taxes for roads - the money should come out of the property taxes they already collect. Stop wasting our money on benefits most residents will never have available to them."

In this economic era, town governments should be concerned with decreasing tax burdens not increasing them. Especially considering comparative taxes to the rest of the country.

Why do they feel the law should be changed? Don't the towns just a need a simple majority of their board members to vote for an override? The current law, in my opinion provides transparency to the taxpayers of the board's fiscal irresponsibility in overriding the tax cap

Exactly why they want it changed - the way it is now the voters will be aware of every time they cross the line. They don't want that transparency - they want to have their paid "Independent accountants" to present rosie financial reports at open meetings. Then behind the scenes the multiple line items in the budget mazes are manipulated.

The cap has forced them to be more open as to how much their factually spending.

KEEP THE CAP - Make them show the tax payer where their money goes.
