    School workers reject contract

The lowest-paid workers in the Buffalo School District have rejected a contract that the control board had hoped would spur other unions to negotiate an end to the city wage freeze.

The union president said that, in turning down the contract by a 4-to-1 margin, summer food service workers sent a message to the control board about a proposed a 25-cent-an-hour increase. Their pay would have increased 3 percent to $8.50. In return, the workers would have agreed to forgo perfect-attendance bonuses.

    Good for them!
This was a joke. When the contract was first proposed it meant that these part time extremly low paid workers would make an extra ten dollars a week over the summer. The funding of which came from the federal goverment and had no affect on city finances what so ever. The control board still refused them because they are union and no union is going to get a raise no matter what. All part of the plan to bring labor to it's knees.
Unfortunatley for the the millionaires club Aka Buffalo control board the rejecting of this raise for the least of city employees and the fact that it had no effect on the fiscal stability of the city, exposed these charlatans for what they are. Their labor breaking agenda was brought to the forfront for all to see.
This caused some embaressing backpeddling on their part. So to save face,"upon further review" they allowed the contract to go to a member vote on the condition that the affected members give up a attendance incentive that virtually pertained to about four of them and saved the city nothing, but looked like a concession on paper. In their arrogance, the control board leaders thought the poor partimers would jump at their generosity thereby absolving them (the control board) in the public eye.
In light of the fact that passing this contract with one and a half weeks to go in the program and no retroactivity for the quarter an hour, the workers told the control board to kiss their ass.
    Good for them!

    here here

they can shove any offer that involves concessions up their collective asses. Our contract is full of money saving concessions. Screw Lipke if he can't read. Let them examine what our contract has saved the City. I guess I'm stuck at my rate. Oh well, sucks they won't honor a contract.

I've said all along that the CB violated the Police contract. Sounds like the CB would like major concessions in benefits such as higher employee contributions to health care and decreased pension benefits in exchange for raises. I am in a union, which is not very strong, so I am not anti-union. I earn about half of what the average cop/teacher earns. If I am a cop/teacher/city employee, even though I am not getting a raise, I would be pleased to know that they can't touch my health and pension. On another subject-- Rumor and Meegan are looking out for themselves. Sure, they would like you to believe that they have your best interest in mind. Here's some inside info.-- believe it or don't. Rumor and Meegan make significantly more than you-- they could care less about a raise, knowing that their health and pension are safe as they approach retirement. You'll be amazed at how many sick and vacation days these two have accumulated-- watch the payouts, which will come soon. Have fun picketing!

    Very wrong about Meegan

While it is true he makes 34,500 from the Union, as well as his Lt. salary. To say that he doesn't care about the lesser paid workforce is dead wrong. If he didn't care, why would he go through all the trouble he does in trying to get the contract honored ? He wants the step 3 Officers at least brought up to the pay rate they were contracted for. He could sit on his hands and say " sorry guys, there is nothing I can do", but he doesn't. He is trying to get the word out how badly Cops are getting it put to them by the Control Board. He works diligently exploring every possible avenue in order to get the members of the PBA their contracted raises. I don't know Runmore but the guy went to jail for the members of his Union. I would say your assumptions about these two are way off base.

WHAT! They refused to give up their "perfect attendance bonuses'!!!

You mean they get paid extra if they show up every day? Unbelievable!

Now, come on unionites, I bet you've got some programed BS on how this is some sort of entitlement you can't live without!!

    our perfect attendence

was put forth by the City. Management devised our plan as an incentive for us, and save the City from paying out OT when someone does call in sick. It works like this, Say you have to have 10 Cops working. 2 call in sick. They have to hire 2 to fill those spots costing the City money.
With the incentive those 2 maybe don't call in sick. The City Accountants saw they were paying X amount of money annually to cover sick days. So in lieu of that came up with a figure less than that that would both save them money and give the Officers incentive not to call in sick.
I don't know what theirs (food service workers) amounts to , but ours I believe will get you the amount of 6 working days annually, so about 1500. Very few get that amount. Most everyone gets the flu , or bad cold, sore back or ****z occassionally. We accumulate sick time at a rate of 11 hrs a month, so 15 days annually. I used to not call in sick, but as of late I don't have the motivation, nor do I think my efforts are appreciated so if I feel under the weather, I'll call in sick and forego the money. Sometimes money isn't everything, and maybe morale is low.

The perfect attendance bonus for the food service workers is $50.

Meanwhile, non-voting control board member Dorothy Johnson makes $110,000 of your tax dollars a year. Thats $5 grand more than Mayor Byron Brown. She sure knows how to save taxpayer dollars.

She has... Hasn't the frozen wages saved the community millions over the lifetime of all the employees?

    1/2 that number

I'm sure in Bflo a person could have been found that would be a mouthpiece for 55k or half of what she is paid. It should have gone out to bid instead of the corrupt political appointment way that it was.

I'm sure some perfectly qualified cops could be found for "only" $50K...

I'm confused. If all these city workers are unhappy with the pay of their jobs why don't they look for other jobs that pay to their liking? The contract doesn't prevent them from looking elsewhere does it?

Sort of agree with him. I would like to know exactly what she does? Anyone know?

Because they don't believe in the free market.

That perfectly illustrates the mindset that federal funding is free and doesn't cost us anything. That is why Congress can spend like drunken sailors to placate their constituents and get voters to elect them over and over again. All local projects, programs, etc., need to be funded locally so that there is some degree of accountability.
