Expecting Hochul to assume the governorship, discussions to architect an agenda are u

Over the last two months a small cadre of Western New York’s most influential businessmen have been engaging in private discussions to frame “a Western New York infrastructure agenda,” on the expectation that Governor Andrew Cuomo will be forced to resign his office under federal indictment.

In that scenario, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul will serve, at least, the remaining three years of Cuomo’s term in office — representing an extraordinary opportunity for Western New York to secure investment capital for a slew of projects. Local special interests — particularly in the construction industry — are salivating at the opportunity, which they optimistically project could mean $5 to $6 billion annually in state money.

The six individuals are among the region’s most influential and well connected — each of them close to the Cuomo administration. None of the participants in the discussions are willing to go on the record publicly, given sensitivities around the Governor’s current standing. No women have participated in the discussions, including Hochul herself.

The six men are of a more forward thinking posture, concerned with issues of inclusion, diversity, and generating a broad based economic revival for the struggling region. They are allies of Governor Cuomo and “the most natural base of support for a Governor Hochul.”

In broad strokes, the strategy is simple: insist on massive infrastructure priorities for Western New York, like a $5 billion build out of the University at Buffalo; in exchange for left-leaning policy priorities downstate, like an extension of rent control and mayoral control of New York City public schools. Each legislative session will be used to extract massive infrastructure priorities, with special focus given to coalition building during the 2018 reelection year.

Is UB growing that someone can justify us spending $5 billion?

Wouldn't our community's best interest be better served if $5 billion was invested into some of the crumbling infrastructure in Erie County instead of more "UB" ?

Aside from the fact that Hochul is hopeless she would be completely outmaneuvered by the state legislature which is overwhelmingly downstate oriented. And anyone who believes the state will spend $5 billion on UB is simply delusional. There's no other to way to say it. Finally, she would get bounced so far in a statewide Democratic primary that she could run for governor of Iowa.

In other words, a bunch of Republicans got together to fantasize about how they could con Hochul into being their stooge on the off-chance that Cuomo might resign. Dude, recreational pot smoking is still illegal in NYS.

Please, Linda! No one has to con Hochul into being a stooge. She plays the role like the natural that she is.

Did it ever cross your mind that Hochul is in agreement with most of the other state Democrats? That you don't like their politics doesn't mean that they don't have valid positions, and that those positions resonate with New Yorkers. It's obvious from the Democrats' electoral success in the last fifteen plus years, and the Republicans' utter failure, that the Dems know how to succeed in politics while the Republicans' are clueless and totally out-of-touch with most New Yorkers. The Pubbies should nominate another loose cannon like Crazy Carl for govie in 2018 ... and maybe that jackass Trump for US Senator. They can plant more "Repeal the Safe Act" signs out in Catt and Allegany Counties, too.

Well she was going to refuse to grant drivers licenses to illegal immigrants and she sought the support of the NRA so she doesn't support the Dems on those issues...either that or she is simply a duplicitous liar. Now that would put her right in step with BO, Hil, Client 9 and other Dems. But no, that's not why I don't like her. She's a dope.
