    Buffalo Crime Reports

In case anybody on this site has any form of relation to any of these stories, that is a coincidence and I apologize if you may be offended that I'm posting actual information about events happening in Western New York.

My goal is not to make fun of anybody, but to shed light on events happening out here, because we all know that nobody but us gives a ****.

56th Case for Buffalo Homicide Squad This Year

    December 29, 2005

The caseload grew again Wednesday night for Buffalo homicide detectives. It comes near the close of a year that saw the return of the homicide squad. News 4's Jodi Hovenden reports from Buffalo police headquarters.

Buffalo homicide detectives are searching for the gunman who shot and killed 24-year-old Jason Lindsay early Thursday morning.

It happened around 1:30 Thursday morning in the Langfield projects as Lindsay was reportedly on his way to see his girlfriend.

Buffalo homicide squad Lieutenant Kenneth Bienko said, "Nobody saw anything. A few people heard the shots. One person looked outside, saw him laying there, and called for an ambulance."

It's the 56th homicide in the city this year, and while detectives do not have any suspects in this case, they have solved about 40 percent of the homicides committed this year since the homicide squad was reinstated in late January.

Investigative Services Chief Anthony Barba said, "The national rate is usually in the fifties, so it's a little disappointing for us that we didn't get more [cases] cleared, but I will say that these homicides are being investigated. We believe we know who did them, and it's only a matter of time."

Detectives have also solved five cold homicide cases in the past 12 months.

Barba said, "We are able to dedicate a lot of time to them, where, when they were doing other crimes -- your burglaries, your robberies, your bank alarms, and so forth -- they couldn't dedicate that time."

But even with a homicide squad, detectives say one of their biggest frustrations is getting citizens to come forward with information about crimes, and in some cases, there is pressure not to talk to police.

Barba said, "They're walking around, while we're trying to... while we're over a homicide scene, people are walking around with these shirts." [see photos at left]

These T-shirts, they say, are sold in neighborhoods where many of the crimes take place.

Barba said, "With this in a community, and people not willing to talk to us and help us, it makes it almost impossible to solve some of these crimes."

15-Year-Old Brother of Buffalo Police Officer Murdered

(Buffalo, NY, March 24, 2006) - - Buffalo police are seeking justice for one of their own. News 4's Ellen Maxwell reports a police officer responded to a homicide scene and discovered his own brother was the victim.

Robin Gary, a cousin of Ke'one Littlejohn, said, "It just hurts my heart to see that this boy is gone."

On a bright, chilly afternoon, 15-year-old Ke'one Littlejohn was shot and killed on Sherman Street Thursday.

Tanisha Gaskin, another cousin of Ke'one, said, "I can't see why anybody could honestly take a baby's life like that. You see it every day. You hear about it. For it to hit home, it's real hard."

It's a scene they see all too often on the city streets lately.

This time, it hit very close to home for a Buffalo police officer.

Ke'one's brother, Officer Cedric Littlejohn, responded to the crime scene.

Gaskin said, "If you was a police officer, and you put yourself in his shoes, and not even realize that this your brother, until you turn around, and look again, and see that this is your little brother."

Buffalo Police Captain Mark Maraschiello said, "Motive could have been robbery. Could have been some sort of revenge thing. We really don't know."

Dojetta Brown, Ke'one's aunt, said, "You know, I hear about tragedies in other people's families. Never thought it would hit my own. But it's a 15-year-old died by gun violence, and it's a shame."

The family hopes someone will help police track down Ke'one's killer.

Brown said, "Someone else's child could be next."

Gaskin said, "Please come forward. They have to think what would they do if it was their child. Put your feet in our shoes. They would want somebody to come forward."

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call Buffalo homicide detectives at 851-4466.

The family is asking for help paying for the funeral.

Donations may be made at M&T Bank locations under the Ke'one T. Littlejohn Fund.

Police are still investigating, but have no suspects.

Men Hold up Restaurant and Shot Owner to Death

(Buffalo, NY, April 16, 2006) - - Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives continue their search this morning for the men who held up a Main Street Restaurant, then shot its owner to death. On Friday, two masked men held up Tony's Ranchouse on Main near Dewey.

During the robbery, they shot the restaurant's owner, 43 year old George Pittilangus, who died a short while later. Pittilangus is remembered by his employees, customers, and even business competitors as a good man, loving husband and father, and caring member of the community.

Local business owner Paul Burgio: "I just can't get over that someone would walk into somewhere and kill a man over a few bucks, it doesn't make any sense to me."

Police say both suspects are men in their 20's. The first is believed to be about five foot ten, 200 pounds and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a yellow stripe. The second suspect is believed to be shorter, but was wearing all black clothing during the crime. Anyone with information is asked to call Buffalo Homicide at 851-4466
