Amherst study is not disregarded by board
12/22/2003
It would be a mistake for The News - or anyone, for that matter - to assume that officials in Amherst will basically ignore the recommendations of the Who Does What? Report. While the supervisor's reaction to the report may have been lukewarm, I do not share her lack of enthusiasm.
As one of three council members who initiated the request for the partnership to undertake the report, I welcome this study and look forward to a serious examination of its recommendations.
No one ever anticipated a perfect report, and I'm sure the framers of this study would admit that flaws may exist in some of their ideas. Nonetheless, the study deserves the Town Board's serious attention, and there is little doubt in my mind that many of my colleagues agree.
We have an absolute responsibility to the taxpayers of Amherst to pursue any and all recommendations about how to run a leaner, more efficient government that will save taxpayer dollars while protecting services. I challenge other communities in Erie County to invite the partnership to perform a similar study of their governments.
I assure the members of the Partnership and all Amherst taxpayers that the study will not be ignored.
