Red Skins banner - who paid for it ?

Maybe I missed it but - who paid for the banner on Central Ave concerning the Reds Skins Rally ?

Who applied for and received a permit to have the sign strung up ?

Who authorized and paid for Village Employees to install the banner ?

Don't you need to apply for , pay for and receive a permit for that ?

Can anyone just have tax funded employees hang a banner without any due process or approval/permit ?

It just seems strange that I missed where this was written in the media.

Most of the persons involved are mainly "Political Hopefuls" - they are just inventing a issue to use as a pre-election campaign tool. Shameless Stunt using our high school team as a Political Football >

When did they "Red Skins" Tribal Reps petition the school to remove the name and who were these people ?
Can the Tribal Reps have a banner and a rally without a permit too ?

Allot of unanswered questions here folks - are we just being lead around by the nose by some self serving Party Players ?

What's this rally really all about - was there a lawsuit filed against the school by some phantom group ? When did that happen ?

Could someone tell us where we can find the answer to these questions ?

It appears nobodies trying to do anything but gain some "Political Momentum" off this stunt.

Pro-mascot banner appears over Central Avenue
    by MARY BEST Reporter
The Lancaster Central School District’s pro-mascot group has sponsored a banner hanging over Central Avenue in front of Rite Aid.

The banner advertises the March 3 public forum to discuss the controversial mascot issue, and reads, “Save the Redskin Tradition,” between a feather and the warrior logo.

The sign was purchased by the members of the community group fighting to keep the mascot name, similar to all signs that hang in the Central Avenue banner slots, according to Michael Stegmeier, clerk and treasurer of the village of Lancaster.

The other location is at the intersection of Broadway and Central Avenue.

Stegmeier added that those spots are only offered to nonprofit or community groups to promote an event for a maximum of two weeks each.

“We do not allow any private, for-profit entities to use it,” he said.

If a group is interested in utilizing the space, members have to fill out an application and once approved, create and deliver their sign to the Department of Public Works.

While the sign is purchased by each individual group, they are not charged an installation fee. A DPW employee installs the banner as a service to the nonprofit or community group, Stegmeier said.

Other than the sign size, material and pickup/drop off dates, the application form does not specify any additional regulations regarding content of the sign.

“This is still America, and as such, individuals and organizations have the constitutional right to express their opinions and concerns,” said Village of Lancaster Mayor Paul Maute.

“The proper protocol for the banner to be displayed was followed and the necessary permit secured per Village policy. Placing banners, which are paid for by the individual organizations, on Central Ave to announce events has been a practice for over 50 years, while some may disagree with the content of this particular banner it meets the established standards for display.”

The pro-mascot supporters are active on Facebook as a group named “Keep the Tradition Alive! “Once a Redskin Always a Redskin,” which as of Wednesday, boasts 2,543 members. Numerous posts on the page have advertised a pro-mascot rally prior to the public forum, and encourage any supporters to sign an online petition fighting to keep the mascot name.

The mascot debate will continue at a public forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the high school cafeteria, 1 Forton Drive.

How dare you post factual information that gets in the way of the conspiracy nuts spewing their uninformed ignorant rhetorical innuendo loaded questions.

Where does it name the "Principals of this Group" - who is the "The Lancaster Central School District’s pro-mascot group" -

It doesn't name anyone or prove anything as far as who's behind this group. Anyone can start a facebook page saying anything they want.

It does show a organized effort by some one or group to instigate this issue. No one was attacking anyone before these people started instigating this .

A well known local developer and a local Politician mentioned starting this type thing last year. That tells me and other - these people have seized a nonissue and have built a vote getting/attention getting scheme - culminating one month out from Village Elections and prior to Town Elections.

If they been at this for over a year - why wait till now ?

Don't you think maybe they displayed the banner to make sure all residents were aware of the meeting on the 3rd so those who are "For keeping the tradition alive" will be present at the meeting? Why have a meeting or discussion with just those who are against the mascot name and whose residence isn't in Lancaster?

Yes - to bring in all those in favor and are willing to Vote for those who act like they care !

Why have a meeting or discussion with just those who are against the mascot name and whose residence isn't in Lancaster?

Who called for a "Rally/Meeting" for those against the name ? -

When did all these non residents come here to force Lancaster to change the name ?

    - I don't remember all these people holding a "Rally/Meeting" at our school

    - nor hanging banners around Town telling the school to change the name

    - I do believe there was a law - written by Politicians - passed by popular vote and set into the books.
Your missing the point - "Why are these people making this such a big issue"

    - Isn't there a actual "Law" that spells out the use or discontinuation of the use of such names - Yes there is !

Did these same people stand up and argue that law -NO- !

Where were they when the Politicians sponsored that law - to garner Votes for being humanitarians - they gained massive media attention for pushing it through ?

Why are these people making this a "Election time issues" ? More Party use a issue that is born out of some guys "Glory Days in High School" -

Are they doing this for the "Community" - who else in the Community wants to continue the insult and break the law ?

Yes, they got a bunch of Glory day Whoop Whoopers riled up - great way to catch some headlines? Are they fighting to change the Law ? Why not ?

So, in the future anyone who creates a facebook page - creates some issue is then labels themselves as a "Community Group" will be given the right to book a rally at the school - post banners on Central and Broadway ?

I hope so - because I want to start a Group for "Honesty in Government" - I think we should hold rallies and Meetings at the school - have the ability to hang street banners on Central and Broadway.
    _____________________________

Some are trying to say this "Rally" is to allow both sides to be heard - BULLSHEETS !

The intent was not to create a open "Debate" - Why didn't they send invites to any group that represents the Tribal Interests !

They just said we will have our people there -Whoop Whoop !- we hope "their people show up" - is that a setting for a honest open debate ?

No, its a "Rally" to bring in people who believe something is being taken a way from them - they are told "Indians want to take away your teams name" - these people want to end your "Red Skins Bar Talk" - that isn't the case and every school has pride in their Teams.

This is so typical of Lancaster's Party Players - Lancaster should be proud of its clinging to the good Old Boy Pride.

As was Lester Maddox doing when he opined that "blacks were intellectually inferior to whites, that integration was a Communist plot, that segregation was somewhere justified in scripture and that a federal mandate to integrate [all-white] schools was 'ungodly, un-Christian and un-American".

Opinions can express the ignorance of those expressing the opinion.

Most people would instantly recognize the boorishness of using a pejorative term for an ethnic heritage as a MASCOT by people not of that ethnic heritage. It takes some real ignorance to not perceive the problem.
