I had a sneaking suspician that Ralph Miranda, (new) Dir. of Developement. was one of the rotten apples in City hall. He will do exactly what he is told by Adolph Polanski just like all the rest of the jerks in City hall. They almost always start out good, but then they are threatened and/or bought.

Hey them Burka wearers have to eat too. And the Lackawana Area is fullm of those people.I dont want to be less the 1000 yards from them thats about the right range.

Typical of people. They fight to keep a govt building (post office) in town, which is costing tax payer 13 BILLION dollars this year, vs having private business empolyee 30+ good paying job, that will pay more taxes than they consume.

This arguement is the opidimy what's wrong with NYS.

Tired and Andrea are official NIMBY card holders!

    Your first quote was:

"What supporters of the slaughter-house fail to consider, are the
very real environmental problems generally known and associated with slaughterplants. "

why would you post this if your not agaisnt the business?

In Kaufman, Tx, neighbors shut down a local slaughterhouse
because not only were the smells & "slaughterhouse debris"
offensive, but the run-off of blood and manure were seeping
    into the towns water-system.

This was a quote from the site, which I provided a link to, regarding the William Street slaughterhouse. It was to provide information. It was not an opinion against anything. Please re-read that post and go to the site provided. You will see it is a word for word quote.

    Alrighty then!

I am pro anything that will positively impact Lackawanna. I would like more information on this type of business however.

From what I have read about it, there are negative connotations associated with a slaughterhouse. That in itself makes it unfavorable for a community already struggling to rise above it's negative reputation. Also, it was underhanded for the City to keep this a secret. It's more of the Polanski, dictatorship at work. The citizens, especially those who live in the immediate area, should have been able to voice their concerns about it.

The news showed the plan of the building last night and the "killing" area is a VERY small portion of this builing. They want to have a freshfood market, which we need a lot more of, and a lot of other retail area.

I'm undecided. I have been to a lot of slaughterhouses as a truck driver some are very good some are very bad. The mayor should have let the public know what was going on. Why does everything have to be top secret with these guys? Notice his smart alec comment on the news. That turns people off. The problem I have is where the animals will be. Is it going to be a live slaughterhouse or trucked in frozen slabs. This is where the problem lies with me. If it is live animals it should be off Ridge Road and into the industrial park. Compromise people. The 1st ward does need a store badly and the city needs buisnesses badly. The heavy and underhandedness needs to stop. The way this city handles things like this at times is just plain stupid. They know Andrea will say something it's her ward why keep it a secret. Now everyone looks stupid.Open government means better relationships when dealing with things of this nature. No one really trusts the mayor or the council like they used to because of thier "top secret" nature. It makes common people think something shady is going on. Wouldn't you want to cover your butt by being more open. Just a thought...

Isn't there a truck ban on Ridge Rd. and South Park? I wonder if these new business owners were informed about that? Probably not.

Thumbs down Typical Good Ole' Boy Move

To all concerned citizens, pro and con a Live Animal Market aka "Meet your Meat": I fought hard to get elected and I took an oath to protect the citizens of the First Ward of Lackawanna because I have watched and learned from first hand experience the lies and broken promises of lame, wimpy, and spineless elected officials at all levels of government. For the past 20 years Lackawanna City politicians have brought/tried to bring into our neighborhood the following list of businesses:
    *Hazmat * Safety Clean * Tire-Burning Plant
*Infectious Medical Waste Treatment Plant * Porno Shop
*A Garbage Burning Plant * Bakery Salvage
*A second Infectious Medical Waste Treatment Plant
*An 8 acre Compost/Organic Matter Waste Site
    * A Slaughter House---Live Animal Market/Butcher
Out of the 10 waste/undesirable related businesses only 5 are here, the Citizens had to rise up and fight city hall to stop the rest from locating here. WHY? ALL typical good ole' boy moves.
Some of you think that we are dirty/industrial/ghetto on our side of the bridge so anything is better than nothing and this is all we can get so take it and shut-up. That we should welcome these businesses no other community allows in and consider ourselves lucky I suppose.
We who live here disagree and want a nice livable mix of business and homes, like the hotel and coffee business so we can all breathe and get along. NOT 1 of you in favor of the businesses we know are not a good fit for our First Ward live near them! Why not put the live animal market in Abbott Road Plaza? We will be happy for you getting the slaughter house where they kill animals and sweep their poo by you and by your houses, OK? Or maybe we will all move out of the 1st Ward and come live in houses in the other wards. Then the boys can fill the whole 1st ward with porno shops and throw the dead animal carcasses in the tumbler in an infectious medical waste plant that was planned to go in behind Mulberry's!
WE live here---WE have a right to be told about business plans for our neighborhood, the same as you would expect in yours. OK. And the money the city gets in taxes---what do you who say oh, but we need the money to.....where do you think it goes?buys? I will tell you where---HUGE SALARIES and MEGA-OVERTIME for city workers, cops-fire and DPW. Not in the playgrounds, streets, sidewalks where it should. The proff is in the pudding. I am watching ch2 about the swine flu, how about 70% of diseases come from live animals. Monkeypox anyone? Malaria--Bird Flu,SARS? Come out to Lackawanna, drive down Ridge Road, hold your nose past the slaughter house and hurry over the bridge to our national shrine at OLV. We can compromise, just put the animal killing part far away from homes. I have it on the Council agenda for Monday September 14,2009 at 6:30.
