    Skunk problem

ANYONE having a problem with skunks..especially in the city. Seems to be more and more of a problem. If so..how did you deal with it?
Trapped one today in my Havahart trap. I know there is atleast 2 more .
I called 311 on Thursday.., operator told me it would be at least 2 or 3 weeks before someone could get over... and bait/trap for skunks.

try calling your local councilman and see if they can speed things up. I think the SPCA or DEC might help with a trap animal. Or buy a couple more traps. Just be careful, that smell is tough to get rid of. Once they nest in an area, others might keep coming back.

I think there has been an overall increase in the skunk population, they've been a problem in the city for years. Just the fact that it will take 2-3 weeks for the city to come out shows you how big the problem has become. You would think they would just buy more traps.

Try calling the county health dept. too. They deal with rats, maybe they will help with skunks too.

    I Called the councilman's office...was just referred to 311..
I caught skunk and drowned it while in trap in a garbage can full of water.
Didnt want to shoot it with my .22 ...as the cops woulda probably arrested me for discharging gun in city.

Low powered BB gun. They get the hint after you ping them a couple of times. Scares the hell out of them, but doesn't harm them.

That's what's wrong with this city, that exact mentality and mind set. What the Ef, can a councilmember do? Speed what up exactly? Are you suggesting that things don't occur properly?

I could see if this (skunk) became a serious problem, but why does a councilmember really need to be involved, except for the knowing that it exists? What? Doesn't he get an email tickler from Sh^tiStat?

The evolution of the councilmember has destroyed this Effing city. Stop being such activists and get down to business. Hold these frigging mayors down to implementing a master plan, rather than what pork they can allocate.

Is there an actual animal control department in the city? I don't mean dogs/cats but more of the skunk type issues?

Better yet.. why does the city have anything to do with this including any town?. Call an exterminator/trapper and have them removed.

I left an email for buffalo exterminating to see if they do skunks but google pointed me here when I searched skunk removal buffalo ny

Don't get your panties in such a knot over this. It's just a case of the squeeky wheel getting the grease. I'm not saying its right but it works.

Gee and I was going to vote for you if you ran for Council or State Senate

Tough crowd today. Yes there is an animal control dept. with the city that will help control stray dogs and cats but also rodents and skunks.

I don't think this is Joe D's personal skunk. They will roam through neigbhorhoods affecting more than one household and can carry rabies.

Well follow the skunk and see what direction he is coming from. Figure out why the skunk is in your yard? Are food scraps left around? do you have skunk yummy plants? Loose garbage lids?

I don't know the what the range of a skunk is.

I agree with WNY - why should it be a function of City/Town/Village governments to take away whatever natural wildlife we find inconvenient?

There's way too much expectation of the Gov't to solve our problems. Trap & drown the critters, as Joe did. If the hawks don't return soon, to eat the damned pigeons in my yard, I'm going to start trapping ! Or I could call 311... (hah)

Never have I seen a skunk evoke such an emotional response.

Just shoot the little booger. No need to call 311 (whatever that is) or get your panties tied into a knot over it.

Geez Louise, it's a skunk for christ's sake. Figure it out on your own dime.

Was????? I feel hurt. Why would I waste my time on those ineffective positions (especially council ) when I could run out of this city and state instead?
