Newly-placed Road Stripes Cause Driving Hazard in Lancaster

Newly-placed Road Stripes Cause Driving Hazard in Lancaster

LANCASTER, N.Y. -- Over the summer, crews repaved Lake Avenue in the Village of Lancaster, and then the village had it re-striped.

However, neighbors and a Village trustee say the new location of the double yellow line puts some drivers right in the path of oncoming traffic.

No more than 10 minutes should be spent on this issue and the lines moved.

This is a no-brainer. I travel that section of road several times a week. It should be re-striped and offset to continue allowing parking on the west side of the street. This is no different than what takes place on Aurora Street – as Trustee Sugg pointed out.

Trustee Robinson looked weak in her four option statement considering public safety is a high priority in municipal governance.

Regardless the situation and how it managed to get incorrectly striped, it needs to be re-striped ASAP. There is a bigger accident risk to motorists who are not familiar with the street condition.

And how about that mumbo-jumbo that the police will not ticket a vehicle that avoids a parked vehicle by crossing a double yellow line – especially when drop offs are being made in ‘no parking zone’ areas.

Thanks for posting this WNYresident. It gives readers an opportunity to see how senseless this is in making much ado about nothing. Common sense is gone in today's world and is no better exemplified than in the politics.

I think the village trustee in the video has far too much time on her hands including the village attorney if this situation is being reviewed.

Anyone know if the trustee is registered in the www.ecdems.com party? I have a hunch.

Wait - Mrs Robinson is consistant in her thinking -

Mr. Suggs wants to save money by getting rid of a Village court system that eats tax dollars - Mrs.Robinson wants to do a study, she can get tax dollars to hire some one to tell her she's WRONG !

Mr.Suggs wants to make a street safe for residents - Mrs Suggs wants to do a tax funded study to have someone tell her she's WRONG !

Whats gonna happen when a head on crash occurs - and the driver who crosses the double line into on coming traffic and says the Village Board Member Mrs. Robinson said the Police Chief says its OK !

Cant wait to see Cellino & Barnes when they take that into court - CHA CHING !

The council woman clearly doesn't understand the problem and it makes her look like a nit whit. The lines are wrong and need to be fixed. Jesus Christ just get it done already . Why is everything such a federal project here in WNY, its just lines on the road for crying out loud. Im beginning to feel the pain of all the people from Lancaster who bitch about their elected officials. You guys and gals have some real doozies running the show.

    - Looks like she runs as a member of the "Citizens Party" as do most of the village trustees

This is nothing more than political infighting between Trustee Sugg and the remaining Village of Lancaster Citizen’s Party board members. Lake Avenue was fine for forty years, a mistake was made and immediate remedy is being delayed – all for $1,800.

    Trustee Robinson and her cohorts:

    • Blame the county for striping the road incorrectly
    • Say the road is safe and especially for buses
    • Say it is okay to cross the double yellow line with caution and the police will not issue a ticket
    • But then say that the mistake can’t be corrected without further input from residents and without a study taking place

    Trustee Sugg’s position:

    1) COUNTY RECEIVED VAGUE/MISSING INFORMATION FROM THE VILLAGE.

    2) STREET IS NOW NOT SAFER FOR DANCE SCHOOL, RESIDENTS AND CHURCH PATRONS.

    3) IT IS NOW OK TO CROSS DOUBLE LINE BECAUSE OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN INFORMAL POLICE ARRANGEMENT. DAWN ROBINSON SAYS YOU WILL NOT GET A TICKET. HOWEVER, IF A POLICE OFFICER DOES NOT AGREE YOUR PASSING THE DOUBLE LINES WAS SAFE ENOUGH, YOU CAN RECEIVE A TICKET. OR WHEN AN ACCIDENT DOES HAPPEN, WHO WILL BE AT FAULT? THE VILLAGE ATTORNEY SAYS THE PERSON CROSSING THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES IS RESPONSIBLE. KEEP IN MIND, THE VILLAGE NEEDS MORE TICKETS TO SUPPORT A SHORT ON CASH COURT SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THE COURTS SHOULD BE DISSOLVED WHICH IS ANOTHER MATTER, BUT MY PREDICTION IS THAT TICKETS WILL BE UP NEXT YEAR VILLAGE WIDE….

    4) NO CONCERN FOR RESIDENTS' ANECDOTAL INFORMATION. RESIDENTS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK AT THE WORK SESSION 10/20/2014 AND HAVE TO WAIT A MONTH UNTIL 11/17/2014 TO VOICE THEIR OPINION. SEVERAL TRIED TO SPEAK, BUT WERE TOLD TO SIT DOWN BY THE BOARD. ONLY RUSSELL SUGG ASKED FOR RESIDENTS BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK. ALL WERE TOLD “NO”.

    5) SAFE BECAUSE IT WAS STRIPPED BY ACCIDENT? CLIPPED MIRRORS, SKID MARKS, SIGN KNOCKED DOWN, HANDICAPPED NO LONGER ABLE TO PARK & GET OUT OF THEIR CARS ANYMORE, BEEPING HORNS AT ALL TIMES OF THE DAY AND NIGHT. HOW IS THIS SAFER?

    6) DOT GUIDELINES, ENGINEERS, CIVIL DESIGNER AND OUR OWN SUPERINTENDANT OF PUBLIC WORKS ALL GAVE PERMISSION TO RESTORE THE PREVIOUS STRIPS.
    7) WHY DOES THE VILLAGE HAVE TO STUDY A SAFE STREET, AND IF THE CURRENT STREET IS NOT SAFE, WHY A STUDY TO RESTORE STRIPES TO ORIGINAL POSITION?

TRUSTEE KEN OBRIEN IS TALKING ABOUT ELIMINATING PARKING COMPLETELY WHICH WILL KILL BUSINESS’ ON LAKE & AURORA. This is NOT WHAT ANYONE IS ASKING FOR BUT HIM.
$1,800 WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. WHY WAIT FOR A HEAD ON COLLISION? PUT THE STRIPES BACK WHERE THEY WERE FOR 40 YEARS.

Most of the Village trustees use Party names they basically invent(their committees invent) - I believe there's some legal reason they cant be labeled as Dems. If you attend any of their functions - you'll see all the same players floating around - you'd swear it was a Dem Committee/Developer get together.

Just like the Village of Depew - mainly friends and Family Members , same developers/supporters and Dem Hopefuls.

Many of the Village and Town Insiders are actually related through marriage as well as Politically - small world !

So the county f'd this up and now it's left the locals to fix it? As I've said on many threads if you want to get rid of a useless layer of government start with the county. Poloncarz and that bunch couldn't stripe a freakin' zebra.

If there is an accident caused by this placement of lines who will be at fault?
