The job is not done...the ripping up of the sidewalks started the second week of Nov. 2014.

The first letter demanding we replace the sidewalks came approx. the 3rd week of May 2014 and only gave us property owners about 2.5 weeks to replace them ourselves...a impossible task for most and any reputable contractor was booked long before the letter arrived.

The towns selected contractor did not even start the project until the very end of construction season....so we have had to deal with the ruts and piles of dirt since Nov. 2014. The contractor did not have enough 4in metal forms so they only used them on a few houses....the rest of us were done with 2x4's which measure 3.5in....I complained to the contractor and got attitude and swore at....BUT he had his guys dig out some stone to make sure I received the 4in of concrete I was going to be billed for.

No levels or strings were used to level the forms.

The town board is aware and was given photos on Feb. 2, 2015....I have talked to several of my neighbors today and they are not happy either and they plan on making calls this week.

Last time I checked my taxes were paid on time and in full....Therefore I expect to have town work done in a reasonable time frame....a year for them to complete a sidewalk project on a 1/4mile long street is not ACCEPTABLE!

The contractor Valeri has sent the dump truck back with a 2 man crew this morning to fill in the ruts on the East side of the street.

I wonder how many sidewalks were tagged as unsafe. If you think about it there are a lot of sidewalks throughout any town. You have some person strolling through marking which blocks need to be replaced. You can walk down one street and easily tag quite a few addresses. Do that for a week and you could have 100's of sidewalks tagged as unsafe.

Anyone know how many sidewalks were tagged as unsafe when this all started?

They initially tagged only 6 of the blocks along my front yard. I caught the guy while he was doing it and got him to agree to tag 3 more after pointing out the defects, but I wished he would have tagged all 12 blocks.

12 of your blocks or other neighbors blocks?

If they are your blocks why would you have to have them tagged in the first place. If you felt they are unsafe you could easily call and have them replaced.

The town was replacing them - why would I bother to call someone else? In fact, I got the town to add the entire cost of replacing the blocks to YOUR town tax.

Because I thought the home owner still covers the cost of the bill so it wouldn't be on the town's tab anyways.

The town pays 40%. And the combined cost is much lower than an individual could hire a private contractor just for their small area.

For what we pay in property taxes that is fine.

In the end I wonder what the real price is we end up paying.

Here are the pictures I took today.

So, they seeded my clay mess... I came home just in time to talk to the crew doing it and he said they were just talking about how much better their work was versus the crew that was here last week....he is right!....their work is much better.

He said they will be back tomorrow morning to redo in front of my house.
