Put a town wide fire district in place so people can have a say in the budget. You're not going to get any accountability out of a private organization that's contracted with the town.
Do the fire halls compare equipment to learn what is useful versus not?

Boston, has the town board looked into the issues at Patchin? Maybe it's time for two fire companies in town.
WNYresident if you are asking if the 3 fire companies talk to each other about what apparatus is needed the answer is no. Each company buys what they feel they need or want.
X the town is aware of the issues at Patchin. I hope they are smart enough to stop it before it gets worse but they might not have the balls to do it. Need those votes to get reelected. It is time for a 2 fire company town.
I'm told that do to lack of maintenance and required safety inspections Patchin's insurance company is making them take their half a million dollar quint out of service. Also known as Patchin 6.
NY the Vampire, are there other types of palaces other than palatial palaces. And, if you have a house fire I hope you get your wish and they let it burn to the ground. Of course, I do hope neither you nor any members of your family are stuck inside at the time. I had a friend whose house burned nearly to the ground. The municipality demolished it & the fire insurance paid for it. But my recollection is that it wasn't as much fun as it seems.
By the way, you don't need a town wide fire district to have control. Just make your wishes clear to the town board at contract time and get the voters to make compliance a litmus test for election. If that doesn't fly neither would a town wide district.
Read up on Joe Weiss from the Town of Clarence. These "firemen" are ferocious even when they are asked to make the slightest changes for the benefit of savings.
Not too many politicians want to go after the volunteer fire companies. The backlash is a campaign ender. That's why the taxpayer gets boned.
