I also know that "Happy Holidays" is a plot by corporate America created so all denominations as well as atheists and agnostics buy gifts and all the other holiday trappings. They are the ones destroying our values.

Is it corparate america , something or someone else?
The values we hold as a country and community are they being shaped and changed by an impossing or possesing outside force?

Could it just be as a social conscience we are moving towards a new or differant direction? Of course that too may be influenced by others.

Good question! What do you think or believe is the cause or do you feel it is a much to do about nothing?

Happy Holidays may include a wider demographic for shopping than Merry Christmas, but if your values are gone, don't blame corporate America.

I don't think coporate America is destroying our values, they are making it harder for us to remember what our values are during the Christmas season. They are extending the Christmas season. Christmas decorations are out before halloween is over. You are hard pressed to find any religious significance as you go out shopping. Try finding a Christmas card that shows any religious meaning! They are filled with santas and snowmen.

When you say values what do you mean? Do you mean the transformation of our american culture overall or the transformation of vlaues of our social american culture which inturn has change over time. Cultures do change its vlaues over time based on many varibles that help drive that change. So, my question is this what are you talking about ? Your view seems focus on one direction Corparate America. Are you anit corparate growth?

Since the 1960's, American vlaues have changed over time based on cultural change and culture transformation towards change overall....So, define your view a little bit more. Streamline your view to include a bigger picture and not so much on the short view of corparate america...this alone is somewhat a shorten, quick, view point of the general media...

Will America change ? Yes, it is a must we change as the world dictates our change like another country. Will america loss some or most of its vlaues in which we were reared on yes, they will change. Are you worried your country will change so much you wont even recognize it; it may in time. Scary isn't it ?

one major problem we have is relaxing our values so no one is offended or left out. we also send out mixed messages

the Catholic church did this recently. while it is OK for them to finance their churches with beer tents and bingo they came out against the casino. it sounded like they feared competition. this contradicting view confused many people.

the tax payers all stated they wanted lower taxes but they elected the democrats who wanted to restore what was cut.

we remove anything that has to do with religion from schools and government and then wonder what happened to the values our children and leaders follow.

we pass a patriot act to help enforce our borders and then grant amnesty and welfare to anyone who makes it through without being caught.

if a witness says a black man robbed him the police are not supposed to profile they have to stop everyone. and I just picked black it could have been any other race.

we claim to be a "melting Pot" but every nationality has its own festivals and many have their own community. we used to require people to at least learn our language now that is not a requirement to live here.

every law we have is written so as not to offend someone. you cant satisfy everyone so we are moving toward no satisfaction. maybe the stones were right after all

Religion in not needed to teach values. Children would learn values much better by just witnessing their parents making the right choices. Religion is just a convenient set of stories for people to point to when trying to justify their actions or exert control over others.

Children constantly receive mixed signals regarding values when they see the hypocricy practiced by many and not being able to reconcile the actions they see with the "religious" values they are taught.

It is not what you say that matters, it is what you do that counts.

I don't see what saying Happy Holidays has to do with our values.

I see country as a continual melting pot. We are more diverse than ever. Saying Happy Holidays is more INCLUSIVE than Merry Christmas or Chanuka (?) or Kwanzaa(?)

The intent was for the discussion on values of the country in general. Beyond the typical holiday times.

What do we hold as these values that we feel as a people may be in risk of being destroyed?

I don't understand the connection your making between corporate push for profit during christmas and them making us lose our values. If people's values are determined by what is said during commercial breaks, then they have personal issues.

If you're focusing on the watering-down of the meaning of christmas, I would start with the school system first. Kids will pick up values there before they pick up values from Walmart. And the schools are getting those ideas from the multicultural politically correct bunch, not from corporate america.

Im not certian if it is corporate america. The question was asked by citymouse in a other thread and I found it to be a good question for us to discuss.

Although we must admit that the shaping of a mind set is started at home. Then dependent on the system, the school district. Then as adults college or work related through associations we make.
Through all that in todays day and age we have the infamous "Boob Tube", that influential and ever present
baby-sitter.
Also must be mentioned is the video gaming industry.

Shaping minds of mush into further thoughtless minds of mush. IE- your local checkout clerk. Remove that calculator and what do you have? I know the calculater does not represent values, but i used that to make a point of the mush.
Endless bombardment of TV with specific agendas shapeing thought and discesion making processes of the human mind. More so today then in the day of many of us over 40.

We must recognise that corporate america does included Hollywood and everything on TV and Radio.

With that, I suppose you could make a corrulation between values and corporate america. For not all corporate america is Wal-Mart and GM. Let Hollywood and the like take blame if blame is to be spread about.
