I know they are not allowed to build a parking ramp because of a accident that happened in the 80's? (not sure of the exact date)Since then no suny school is allowed to build one..

I will see if I can find out what they are doing with the old football field.
What about the Building Supply store/yard on the corner, across from the field...is that part of the new proposed stadium?

Is that true? What happened in the 80's that would prevent any future garages at Suny?

Oooh, did your toes just curl? You got to defiantly use the word "mall" in a neo-urbanist rant. I'm so proud of you.

But I do agree on the notion that we need to attract OUT OF THE AREA students. And that means developing the whole area around Buff State too with some amenities that will make things comfortable, safe and convenient for those out of state students.

Think from the perspective of what these out of towners think when they first set foot on the campus for a a visit. Do they want to see a campus flanked by a run down old asylum to the left, a deteriorating stretch of urban decay to the right, a seething and crime infested "blighted" neighborhood behind the campus and a could be kind of exciting and cultural neighborhood in the front of the campus, but one that is in actuality filled with many vacant storeforents and people who are always whining about things not being utopianly perfect enough?

    Hmmm?

And again, ultimately I think that students will choose their campus based more on the quality of the educational programs offered and not by how exciting the design, layout or architecture of the campus is.

    Please.

And Miles would have a mild heart attack if he saw the campus where I work.

Not an ornate piece of design anywhere to be found. "Boxy" to the hilt. Oh, and we gots ourselves some MAAAAD parking. Uh-huh! We even have BIG BOX SHOPPING and FAST FOOD PLACES near campus! Wheeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeee!

But you know what, no one gives a crap.

Just so you know I live in that "crime infested 'blighted' neighborhood" and while there are blight problems it is not crime infested either. Yes there is crime but I have no problem walking home after seeing some people play at the Sportsmans at 11:00. We used to have a block club but after I handed over the leadership role to another person it just disappeared. The buildings in this area are old and most residents that live here do not have much money to fix up their homes. Others like me do what we can.

From what i understand is that there was a campus I believe in NYC? that had a parking ramp and due to budget issues they did not do the necessary repairs and it collapsed. Since then they will not put one in due to the cost of maintenance.

I don't think there's any Suny-wide ban on them. The SUNY Upstate Medical Campus in Syracuse has built 2 new parking garages in the past couple years.

Parking Garages would bring more parking spaces closer to campus, making it more convenience for students instead of having to walk a half-mile across a sea of parking lots.

And you mention how scary you think the surrounding area is... yet you would rather have the students park way out there at night?? Instead of parking close by in a garage that could be connected by walkways??

How do you mock the asthetics of parking, while at the same time complaining about the asthetics of nearby buildings that Buff State doesn't even own? Wouldn't it make much more sense to develope land they already own instead of whining about the asylum that they have no control over?

It's like saying your husband wants to install newer more efficient windows in your living room, but you mock him out because his plans don't involve tearing down a neighbor's house down the street that you don't like.
