Why I love the Big Apple

Check out the commercial by this guys who's running for Manhattan Borough President.

Watch the whole thing (humor me, it's only 30 seconds).

How do you think this would go over in WNY??

So if he ever makes it to President of the United States the First Lady will be named "Simon"?

Oh, I think the whole controversy about gays is one big yawn

Oh, I think the whole controversy about gays is one big yawn

If two people want to get together...I dont care.

Frankly the day they liberalized divorce for straight couples thats pretty much the day they opened the door for gay marriage.

My only concern isnt gay couples but the fact that relationships in this country are devolving into temporary agreements more than long term (if not life long) commitment and sex isnt an expression of love but an act or a group of acts or a group act.

And when people of faith have concerns about gay relationships, I have to ask them why they are more concerned about gay relationships than straight relationships....shouldnt they be concerned about the state of friendships and relationships in general.

    1. Why are you concerned about other peoples relationships?

    2. Sex has never been an act with me, it's more of an undressed rehearsal.

If sex is the rehearsal, what exactly is it you're rehearsing for?

No one answered the question of how well this would go over in WNY?

That's what I like about NYC, the open-mindedness.

I'm not sure the majority of WNYers would be OK with this. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

As far as the gay thing - some people will get upset, some people will support him solely on that fact, most people won't give a rat's ass probably.

Personally, I would never vote for him. He seems to be confusing the jobs of President of the USA with President of a NYC Burough. He really doesn't make relavant point except that A) he shows a mocked up picture of the president naked and B) he introduces his partner for no apparent reason except to imply he's gay. Neither point has anything to do with the office he's running for.

Burough President is like our County executive. I don't care about Giambra's Wife, why would I care about this guy's partner? I care about whether he can actually perform the job and not just sit around photoshopping the president picture all day long.

He's shooting for the hollywood angle: controversy. Whatever is controversial will get you in the news and give you free press. The same reason that washed-up actresses go on david letterman drunk, or show their nipples during superbowl halftime.

When you have nothing important to say.... create controversy.

Hey, that's why I love NY, too. You just take stuff or leave it, you don't have to do anything. Just live your own life to the best of your ability. I think Ellner makes quite a statement about where he stands. It wouldn't go over in WNY--see above.

I have to agree w/300miles on this one

I have to agree w/300miles on this one

I despise people who vote for just because their religion (jew), ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

Look if thats all you have to offer then your going to screw the taxpayer just like every other politician and we need someone to do their job like its their job...not some stepping stone to an appearance on Jay Leno.

As far as your concern about how tolerant Buffalo is...well I happen to believe that Buffalo is far more tolerant that you give it credit for being.

Buffalonians are very down to earth people. Buffalo may not be NYC or San Francisco but we are not the shallow conformist material hungry white collar types found in some other stuffy white collar cities....where your nothing more than what you have or who you know...chasing after the bigger better deal. We are a people who will share a beer with you if your an executive or a factory worker.

I couldnt help but remember the daughter of Darwin Martin as she talked about her childhood at Graycliff and the Jewitt Parkway Mansion and she said that she knew what it was like to grow up with great wealth and privilege and to not have enough money to pay for gas for the lawn mower when their company failed. She attributed her very grounded upbringing to her parents and to Buffalo.

I dont think that people in Buffalo care whose gay....but if thats all you are....then dont blame it on being gay.

He sez he's a dem, anti war, pro the best education of the children, he doesn't like the presidents policies, he's probably liberal and he's gay, which opens up a whole other book of where he stands on issues. For a first impression--that's a lot.

all the anti-war stuff has nothing to do with job as Burough President. I think maybe he needs to read the brochure again.

" he's gay, which opens up a whole other book of where he stands on issues"
Ahhh, the truth comes out (pun intended). So because he's GAY, you're assuming you know exactly how he stands on other issues? That is not very open minded of you. That's just like saying you know how Byron Brown would vote just because he's Black.... and that would be considered RACIST.
