'Wired building' program expanded

State economic development officials said New York's "wired building" program is being enlarged to include telecommunications services.

Empire State Development will make available $2.5 million in grants for businesses to obtain broadband capability.

Individual awards of up to $75,000 will be provided for installation of advanced telecom wiring in existing buildings, and up to $200,000 for projects developed in wireless communities.

Applications to ESD's Albany office should be forwarded by Oct. 17
