JUDY DOESNT HAVE THE GUTS TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE TEACHERS UNION OR THE POLICE UNION

JUDY DOESNT HAVE THE GUTS TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE TEACHERS UNION OR THE POLICE UNION

WHY SHOULD SHE, IS IS IN BED WITH THE UNIONS.

THIS IS JUDY'S PRIVATE WAR AGAINST PEOPLE OF RELIGIOUS FAITH WHO WANT TO USE THEIR SCHOOL TAXES TO GET A VOUCHER SO THEY CAN AFFORD TO SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS.

DOES EVERYONE REMEMBER WHEN THE TEACHERS UNION SAID THAT THEY WERE GOING TO FLOOD THE SCHOOL BOARD WITH ANTI-CHARTER SCHOOL CANDIDATES. WELL, JUDY IS THE TEACHERS UNIONS ATTEMPT NOT JUST TO TAKE OVER THE SCHOOL BOARD BUT TO TAKE OVER THE MAYORS OFFICE.

JUDY, WANTS EVERY PUBLIC SCHOOL CHILD TO BE EQUAL! SHE WANTS TO DEPRIVE THEM OF THE ABILITY TO EXCELL AND TREAT ALL BUFFALO SCHOOL CHILDREN AS THOUGH THEY WERE LEFT BEHIND IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM OF LAST RESORT!

AND SINCE JUDY DOESNT HAVE THE GUTS TO STAND UP TO UNIONS, JUDY WILL RUBBER STAMP EVERY SCHOOL TAX INCREASE, EVERY TEACHER HEALTH BENEFIT AND RETIREMENT, EVERY INCREASE IN TEACHER PAYROLL....IN SHORT EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF THE BUFFALO SCHOOL BOARD AND TEACHERS UNIONS WILL BE SEEN ON YOUR TAX BILL.

SEND THIS FEMINIST THE MESSAGE THAT WE DONT WANT THE TEACHERS UNION RUNNING THE MAYORS OFFICE!

    Moadib,
Please don't make accusations like these. Judy 4 mayor did not say she is for all the things you have stated she will do.

Moadib, you need to behave yourself. You're coming across as a Jekle & Hyde. One post you make a meaningful contribution, the next you're a raving maniac. What gives? Wait, don't answer that, this is Judy's thread.

    Good point Buff.

Judy, How do you feel about Masiello's announcement not to run?

Are you releived, or disappointed without the challenge of running against the incumbent?

Judy - do yourself a favor and just ignore Moadib. No reasonable person here will fault you for doing so.
You're just wasting your time with him. If he has lot of built-up anger towards women.

I would like to expand a little on Judy's response:

you're right that the biggest funding problem for public education is pension and health care costs that everyone knows suck money out of classrooms. but it doesn't follow that public schools will never be able to educate your children just because we have a financial problem to solve.

don't mistake my kindness for weakness. as mayor i intend to stand up for democracy, and public education, flawed as its been throughout its evolution, is still a good way for a person whose parents can't provide an education for their child to make it in the world. sounds to me like you're the one who doesn't care about the kids who will be out of luck if we don't make a commitment to fixing our system of public education. don't bother telling me you're fighting for kids who are being left behind because i won't buy it.
The New York Constititution provides "The legislature shall provide for the maintenance and support of a system of free common schools, wherein all the children of this state may be educated" (NY Const, art XI, § 1). By mandating a school system "wherein all the children of this state may be educated," the State has obligated itself constitutionally to ensure the availability of a "sound basic education" to all its children. This is a constitutional minimum which I believe the City of Buffalo has not been able to meet for a number of decades. That is not to say that all children that go to a Buffalo Public School is not obtaining a sound basic education. It just means that it is not providing it to all children. For example ESL, Special Educational Students, etc. We need reform and serious dialogue on this issue at not only the local level but also in regard to State funding.

I not currently undecided on alternate funding for either quasi-private or private schooling. However, we must address the public schools not meeting the constitutional right of our children first. By doing so it may reduce, if not eliminate, the drive for private or quasi-private schools.
The views above are of the poster only.

"No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man's permission when we require him to obey it. Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor." -- Theodore Roosevelt

I often think that charters...vouchers are simply a quick fix that ignore the long term problem.....

    DT.....you are absolutely right......

If the school system is fixed, all else becomes moot...

Judy has guts.....just posting in here proves that....."we" can be brutal....

    Look at it this way....

    16 years J. Griffin.....12 years Tony M.......

28 years and two people as mayor.....

It is time for new blood.........not just a new face....someone who isn't sold out to the system like Byron B. is.....we need someone truly different....

Byron B. is really the one who seems to have thrown his whole campaign in the laps of the unions....

Everyday it seems he is getting another endorsment from this union or that union....

He knows that they are going to vote enforce......because they have a lot to lose if someone is elected that is truly about change....

Byron.....he comes off being like any typical politician....looking for face time without really doing anything....

    Go to his website.....http://www.byronwbrown.com/

What is he all about.....what are his accomplishments? Hopefully Buffalonians will see through all his crap....and realize that he is simply more of the same....

Well here is where I stand on Judy so far!

Well here is where I stand on Judy so far!
    1) She does not support a Casino in Buffalo or Erie County and neither do I

    2) She supports Rental Vouchers, selling off all BMHA Property including the Marina Towers in favor of mixed income - multi-use development/redevelopment which I support

    3) She supports a tougher judiciary and fines to discourage the wonton destruction of neighborhoods by absentee landlords, slum lords, house flippers and predatory lenders which I support

WE DIVERGE WHEN IT COMES TO SCHOOL VOUCHERS / SCHOOL CHOICE (PUBLIC, PRIVATE & PAROCHIAL) AND FORCING PARENTS TO PAY BOTH PUBLIC SCHOOL TAXES & PRIVATE TUITION.

WE DIVERGE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD& TEACHERS UNIONS

UNFORTUNATELY, THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE THAT WILL NOT LIVE IN BUFFALO BECAUSE OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS SO THERE GOES BUFFALO'S UPPER AND MIDDLE CLASS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOODS.

LASTLY, I WILL SAY IT ONE LAST TIME SINCE YOU BROUGHT UP NYS CONSTITUTIONAL OBLIGATION TO FUND EDUCATION. THERE IS NO LINKAGE BETWEEN SCHOOL TAXES AND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE (that includes school safety, test scores, behavior, morals, etc)

WHATEVER MONEY THAT IS PUT INTO PUBLIC SCHOOLS DOES NOT GO TO CHILDREN LIKE IT DOES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. IT GOES TO:
    1) SCHOOL BOARD AND SUPPORT STAFF
    2) ADDING PAYROLL BY HIRING MORE TEACHERS, TEACHERS AIDS, NURSES, JANITORS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPLES, PRINCIPLES, ETC
    3) INCREASING SALARIES, BENEFITS, HEALTHCARE AND RETIREMENT
    4) UNION DEMANDS FOR WORK RULE CHANGES...
    5) AND LETS NOT FORGET THE STATE MANDATES
    IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS...CHILDREN COME LAST

PRIVATE AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS DONT HAVE ALOT OF BURACRACY OR SUPPORT STAFF AND THEY LIVE AND DIE BY THE REPUTATION OF THE SCHOOL SO WHATEVER MONEY THEY HAVE IS INVESTED INTO THE STUDENTS!

IN PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS CHILDREN COME FIRST AND IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS...CHILDREN COME LAST. ITS THE WAY THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IS SETUP....FEEDING THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM MONEY WILL NOT REFORM IT OR IMPROVE IT BUT IT WILL RAISE YOUR SCHOOL TAXES. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THEY RAISED TAXES FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND YET NO IMPROVEMENT....WHY BECAUSE THERE IS NO LINKAGE TO PERFORMANCE....SO YES THEY WILL RAISE YOUR TAXES BUT NO YOU WILL NEVER GET ANYTHING FOR YOUR TAX MONEY WHEN IT COMES TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

PS: AHNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA TOLD THE TEACHERS UNIONS THAT THEY COULD NOT HAVE ANY MORE INCREASES IN TAX DOLLARS FOR ANYTHING (SALARIES, BENEFITS, RETIREMENT, ETC) UNLESS IT WAS LINKED TO INCREASED SCHOOL PERFORMANCE IN THEIR STUDENTS AND THE NEA AND TEACHERS UNIONS ARE GOING CRAZY! YOU THINK THINGS WORK ANY DIFFERENTLY IN NYS. NOPE, THERE IS NO LINK TO SCHOOL TAXES AND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE HERE EITHER!

THATS WHY SCHOOL VOUCHERS / SCHOOL CHOICE IS THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE....LET THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM RE-ORGANIZE ITSELF TO COMPETE WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS!

    FOR THE RECORD, ....

FOR THE RECORD, .... I AM NOT ANGRY TOWARDS WOMEN AS THERISING STATED.

BUT, I DO FIND IT RATHER DISGUSTING THE WAY PEOPLE FAWN AND DROOL OVER FEMALE CANDIDATES LIKE THEYRE SOME SORT OF NOVELTY OR OPPRESSED MINORITY THAT ROSE UP FROM SLAVERY. EVEN BYRON BROWN, AN AFRICAN AMERICAN, DOESNT GET AS MUCH MINORITY SUPPORT FROM THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY AS A FEMALE CANDIDATE GETS FROM THE FEMINIST LOBBY!

WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE JUDY BECAUSE OF HER GENDER! SORRY, I JUST FIND THAT OFFENSIVE!

THERE ARE THINGS JUDY AND I AGREE ON AND THINGS WE DO NOT. HOWEVER, FAILING TO TAKE A STAND ON SCHOOL VOUCHERS SAYS TO ME THAT SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE BACKBONE TO STAND UP TO THE TEACHERS UNIONS OR THE EDUCATIONAL LOBBY AND IF SHE DOESNT HAVE THE BACKBONE FOR THAT...THEN SHE CERTAINLY WONT HAVE THE BACKBONE FOR STANDING UP TO THE POLICE UNIONS, THE BUSIESS LOBBY OR THE BMHA OR ANY OTHER SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP!

This is not going to be a thread about gender.

Judy is the only candidate so far that has stepped up to the plate and logged on to the message boards to discuss her reasons behind wanting to run for Mayor of Buffalo. Give her a break.

We can't have everything we want in a candidate, especially you moadib who thinks that everyone should share your views on school vouchers. Frankly I think you make no sense on that topic.

Don't mind if I do the same to you -- IF YOU WANT MORE OF AN EDUCATION FOR YOUR CHILDREN THAN WHAT THE GOVERNMENT PROVIDES THEN YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR IT YOURSELF. STOP TRYING TO SUCK MORE SUBSITY OFF THE CITY & STATE WITH THE NOTION THAT PEOPLE "HAVE TO PAY 2x THE MONEY". IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE EDUCATION QUALITY AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THEN RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD IN THE CITY AND TRY TO MAKE CHANGES FOR YOUSELF.

And for God's sake, please lay off the caps. In case you don't understand... please do not create posts using all capital letters.

For those following the public school issue who have held to higher standards of discussion -

Public schools were created to equalize opportunity. Granted the quality of teaching and learning in many public school systems needs serious improvement.

Some people have the means to afford private or parochial schools for their children. These are lucky people indeed, or people who are willing to sacrifice a lot for their children. These schools, because they are not public schools, do not have to meet all the mandates and restrictions public schools must meet. For better or worse. Will mandates and restrictions accompany public dollars if they flow to private or parochial schools? What about the separation of church and state, a concept that was actually defined in an education case, Dartmouth v. Board of Education?

Everyone wants their child to have the best advantages. We have to fix public education, but not by privatizing it.

In some countries people have universal health care. The richer folks have the option of participating in the system, or, they can pay out-of-pocket for the medical care of their choosing.

We're never going to have a completely fair and flat system unless it's socialist and I can't see the advantages to that. Capitalism assumes that some will have more and some will have less. What we're trying to achieve is the best possible quality of services and opportunity for those who have less so they can compete and reach their full potential like those who have more.

The problems urban school systems currently face are difficult to solve. They've been brought on by years of poor decision making and years of failed public policy. Vouchers and charters are not going to fix anything. A few students may get the opportunity to attend a non-public school. But you don't fix a system one student at a time. And you don't advance democracy by putting those who can't opt out of the public school at further disadvantage. The sytem itself needs to be rethought. Blaming unions may allow a person to let off some steam, but the union is only part of the problem. Those with knowledge of the history of teachers unions know that unions have been backed up against the wall for so long that that's moved them toward operating the way they do today because communities failed to listen to their initial pleas to pay attention to the educational needs of students. Now everything is so bad that we have no choice but to pay attention to the needs of students.

Obviously blaming is no way to solve problems. Obviously the problems are serious. I have a strong commitment to democracy and to equal opportunity. I will do all I can to help restructure the public education system in Buffalo to find our way clear so that we can offer all students a quality education.

We live in community. Long ago we decided public education would be supported with public dollars. We have a responsibility to make sure we use those dollars to deliver a quality education. Those parents who want their children to attend private or parochial school always have that choice.

We've also agreed to use our public funds to pay for garbage collection. People have the choice to pay for a private garbage collection. Other analogies are numerous. We live in community. Our tax dollars, wisely spent, should work to our advantage. If our public schools are good, our homes are worth more. It's not a question of double taxation.

    Night Owl -

Masiello not running makes me happy. I'm relieved he's bowed out gracefully.

What I find most interesting is that Mark Cappola waits until Tony withdraws then announces. Think there's a tie?
