Night Owl,
From the sound of your email I think you believe in vouchers and charters.
Judy,
I never sent you an email, especially one about vouchers or charter schools.

I dont think parents should pay school taxes on top of private/parochial tuition
Right now, if a parent wants to send their children to a private or a parochial school they must pay the tuition and still pay their public school taxes and I think that is just lunacy.
I dont know about charter schools but if a parent is sending their children to private or parochial schools they should be exempt from paying school taxes while that child is enrolled or they should receive a voucher public school dollars with the child to the private or parochial school.
Hey if a parent chooses a charter and its better than a public school then I could support that BUT SCHOOLS ARE NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF EMPLOYING SCHOOL BOARDS, UNIONS AND TEACHERS....THEY ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF EDUCATING STUDENTS AND THOSE PARENTS/STUDENTS SHOULD TRUMP ANY BURACRACY!

Im disappointed Judy, parents should be able to use their tax dollars for any schools
While some charter schools may fall behind public schools, just how do you expect to send a message to the board of education and the teachers unions if parents cannot vote with their feet (which they already do when they move to the suburbs)
Besides its not a 1:1 trade off when children transfer to charter schools. Charter Schools only get a fraction of the cost that public schools receive for the same student.
And as far as charter, private or parochial schools...many parents would rather receive a stipend or voucher that they could add their own money to send their children to a charter, private or parochial school.
Since one of the reasons people refuse to live in Buffalo is because of the schools it only seems reasonable to improve our neighborhoods by allowing parents to choose the school choice they can best afford (w/school vouchers) than to leave the city entirely (w/o school vouchers)
ALSO, YOU WILL NEVER GET THE SCHOOL BOARD OR THE TEACHERS UNIONS TO AGREE TO TYING PAY & BENEFITS TO PERFORMANCE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEES.
SO YOUR RESPONSE PRETTY MUCH SAYS THAT YOU DONT HAVE THE GUTS TO STAND FOR WHATS BEST FOR BUFFALO OR THE GUTS TO STAND UP TO THE TEACHERS UNIONS ANY MORE THAN MASIELLO DOES. MAYBE YOU CAN SMILE, LOOK SELF EFFACING AND FLASH YOUR BOOBS SO PEOPLE WONT HATE YOU AS MUCH AS MASIELLO BUT YOU DONT HAVE THE GUTS TO LEAD BUFFALO OR STAND UP TO ITS SPECIAL INTERESTS BASED ON THIS ANSWER!
You are too much....
I've got an idea....go to Mizz Einach's website.....read what she is all about then come back with some linco questions....
None of these broads wears a brass bra!
So far none of these broads stands for anything that would improve Buffalo, except that they have tits and are endorsed by the womens lobby.
I care about Buffalo. I could give a crap about whether someone has a penis or a vagina. Theres no novelty about a women running for mayor, especially if she stands for the same bull****!
Once again Moadib shows his real colors.
Moadlib some times you come up with some good stuff but at others times you act like a space alien. What's with the women with and Brass bra comment???, uncalled for man you, can disagree but you should at least try to be civil and typing IN ALL CAPS looks childish you should stop it it and people will pay more attention to you and take more seiously.
That said I'm gonna thread jack you and steal your question in case Mrs. Einach is not of the mood to answer people that are insulting to her. because I am interested in the answer as well.
I think she was confusing you and night owl and that alone means this thread is getting to long. I think if your going to asks questions about different issues they should be in different threads. just my opinion.

Sorry you don't like my position of vouchers and charters. Sounds like your ability to discuss issues isn't all that great and in spite of the fact that you won't believe me, your facts are wrong. You resort to low level tactics which indicate further ignorance. I find most people who stoop to cheap attacks are usually the ones without the guts to stand up for what matters.
With respect to your position on BMHA and city-owned housing, I agree the city shouldn't be in the real estate business and that mixed use is the way to go.

Nah, he just doesn't like woman.
For those of you in this discussion group who are still inclined in my direction, I'd appreciate it if you'd a minute and log on to www.wkbw.com, scroll down a little and on the right under Hometown Heros and Interactive is a quick poll for mayor of Buffalo. You don't have to live in the city to participate. This is not a scientific poll. Results will be broadcast on the Friday news. Thanks for helping me look good early in the campaign.

You're good, Night Owl!

It wasnt a discussion about charter schools but about school choice
SCHOOL CHOICE INCLUDES PAROCHIAL AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS, PUBLIC & CHARTER SCHOOLS
There are many private and parochial schools that far exceed both public and charter schools in education, safety, manners and morals
THE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHOULD DO NOTHING MORE THAN SET STANDARDS AND AUDIT COMPLIANCE. PARENTS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY SCHOOL TAXES AND PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL TUITION ON TOP OF THOSE TAXES.
There is no way to make public schools better because the unions will never agree to linking pay for performance and they together with the school board will eat up any monies pointed in its direction in buracracy, pay and benefits!
Your avoidance of using school vouchers for private and parochial schools and instead focussing on charter schools says that YOU are part of the problem JUDY and YOU DONT HAVE THE GUTS to stand up to unions, union negotiations and patronage any more than any other politician.
ALSO, I AM UTTERLY UN-IMPRESSED THAT A PERSONS SEX SOMEHOW IMPLIES BENEVOLENCE AND VIRTUE. LOOK AT NAPLES WHO DIDNT KNOW THE COUNTY HAD A DEFICIT UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO!
IF YOU DONT HAVE THE GUTS TO STAND UP TO THE TEACHERS UNION HOW WILL YOU HAVE THE GUTS TO SELL THE MARINA TOWERS AND ALL THE BMHA PROJECTS TO REPLACE THEM WITH RENTAL VOUCHERS!
YOU DONT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES JUDY! ADMIT IT AND STOP WASTING EVERYONES TIME! IF YOU CANT STAND UP TO UNIONS, THEN YOU CANT STAND UP TO BUSINESS LOBBYISTS, YOU CANT REFORM BURACRACY, YOU CANT END PATRONAGE AND YOU CANT LEAD ANY OF THE MAJOR PROJECTS THAT NEED TO GET ACCOMPLISHED FOR BUFFALO!
NICE AND SWEET IS NOT GOING TO CUT IT AND NEITHER WILL YOUR SEX OR YOUR FEMINIST LOBBY OR A CAREFULLY STAGED PUBLIC TEARING...IF YOU CANT STAND UP TO UNIONS....THEN YOU CANT PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS!
THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF EDUCATING STUDENTS!
THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF WAREHOUSING AND BABY SITTING STUDENTS
THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF EMPLOYING TEACHERS, TEACHERS ASSISTANTS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPLES, PRINCIPLES, NURSES, JANITORS AND THE HIERCHY OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION.
WHATEVER DOESNT FLOW DOWN FROM ALBANY FOR CIVIL SERVANT BENEFITS, HEALTH AND RETIREMENT MANDATES, OR FLOW DOWN FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATION....GETS DIRECTED RIGHT TO THE UNION NEGOTIATIONS.
UNLIKE PAROCHIAL, PRIVATE AND CHARTER SCHOOLS WHICH LINK EVERYTHING TO STUDENT PERFORMANCE....PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE ENTIRELY DEVOID OF TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS EDUCATING STUDENTS.
JUDY, YOU DONT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A LEADER OR A MANAGER OR A NEGOTIATOR! GO HOME!

school choice exists regardless of vouchers or charters. you're not into corporate welfare, i bet. so why are you into public subsidies to send kids to private or parochial schools? you want to send your kids to a private or parochial school - that's your choice. if it costs money out of your pocket, pay for it.
you're right that the biggest funding problem for public education is pension and health care costs that everyone knows suck money out of classrooms. but it doesn't follow that public schools will never be able to educate your children just because we have a financial problem to solve.
don't mistake my kindness for weakness. as mayor i intend to stand up for democracy, and public education, flawed as its been throughout its evolution, is still a good way for a person whose parents can't provide an education for their child to make it in the world. sounds to me like you're the one who doesn't care about the kids who will be out of luck if we don't make a commitment to fixing our system of public education. don't bother telling me you're fighting for kids who are being left behind because i won't buy it.
this is the last time i intend to engage in discussion with you. say whatever you like. i don't expect to please all the people all the time. i won't count on your vote.

WHY SHOULD SOMEONE PAY SCHOOL TAXES 2X IF THEY WANT BETTER THAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
EVERYONE PAYS SCHOOL TAXES! SO WHY IS ASKING FOR THEIR SCHOOL TAXES TO BE APPLIED OR TRANSFERRED TO A PRIVATE OR A PAROCHIAL SCHOOL A SUBSIDY?so why are you into public subsidies to send kids to private or parochial schools? you want to send your kids to a private or parochial school - that's your choice. if it costs money out of your pocket, pay for it. QUOTED BY JUDY FOR MAYOR
LETS REVERSE THE SITUATION. EVERYONE PAYS SCHOOL TAXES INCLUDING THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN. BY YOUR DEFINITION, ARENT PUBLIC SCHOOLS RECEIVING A SUBSIDY FROM THOSE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN?
JUDY, YOU GOT YOUR BRAINS IN YOUR BOOBS! JUDY YOU HAVE THE TEACHERS UNION SO FAR UP YOUR ASS THAT YOU CANT SPEAK FOR YOURSELF.
A VOTE FOR JUDY IS A VOTE FOR THE TEACHERS UNION TAKING OVER THE MAYORS OFFICE
