    Why you should homeschool

A YouTube video uploaded on Monday afternoon apparently shows a schoolteacher from the Rowan-Salisbury school district in North Carolina informing a student that failing to be respectful of President Obama is a criminal offense. Breitbart News has uncovered that the student is a high school junior, and that the teacher is apparently one Tanya Dixon-Neely.

The logic on display here is amazing, and by "amazing" I mean truly frightening.

One student says, “Didn’t Obama bully someone though?” The teacher says: “Not to my knowledge.” The student then cites the fact that Obama, in Dreams from My Father, admits to shoving a little girl. “Stop, no, because there is no comparison,” screams the teacher. Romney is “running for president. Obama is the president.”

Who could have possibly expected that teachers would be all creepy in love with the Preezy of the United Steezy?

Of course you should home school your children...if you don't want them exposed to the real world.

If that child had been home schooled and then, as an adult, was told the same thing by another adult, what would be their response? "My mommy said...bla...blah...blah...."

If you are really concerned about your kids being brainwashed then stopped telling them there is an invisible man in the sky watching everything they do.

I agree. You should shelter your kids from anything in the real world that can ever happen to them by homeschooling them. Then when you're dead and they have to enter the real world they will be shocked at the lack of daisies and rainbows.
So what if the teacher said that? I would expect that the kid who was a junior was smart enough to know better. I know my kids are.

You could not be more wrong on this. Sending them to public school is sheltering them from real life. Can anyone here really say our teen years where anything close to the reality of our adults years. I will say it for at least the 12th time here on SU - I would not send a dog to a public school, anyone who intrusts the public school to educate your children is walking on a cliff edge.

The biggest myth of home schooling is that kids are sheltered from real life. Far from it, those who claim this are themselves sheltered from reality.

I went to a public grammar school. I turned out fine. I think a lot of education is parenting or lack of it.

How do you expose them to other kids (good and bad,) other people's opinions (good and bad,) and the realities of life (good and bad,) if you home school them?

If you think the public schools are the real world...you're a bigger idiot than I thought.

Just like the idiots who say they have their kids in challenged schools so they can be exposed to the 'real world' for life lessons.

    It's all BS.

I didn't go to public school (except for Kindergarten), so maybe I'm missing something - So, can someone tell my why public schools are "not the real world?"

Public schools have been dumbed down so the not so intelligent kids and the lazy kids are not left behind. This in turn does a disservice to the more intelligent kids and kids that work harder by not challenging them and showering them with good grades when in reality they would be a c at best. Then when they go to college they are in for a shock because they weren't challenged in school. But they do have organized sports so the average kids can try and get a scholarship instead of studying harder. Are home schoolers better prepared? Who knows?

They do all the real life adult things WITH us. The girls go shopping with mom, learn to cook, sew, etc. - REAL LIFE style, not in some class room. The boys work on the cars doing mechanical work, help with wood working and real work at an early age. A huge percentage of the school day is wasted in public school.

I have 3 daughters and 1 son that have been home schooled kindergarten through 12th. I'll put my girls up against the best the public school has, the boy well he is.... hmmmmm - well he can lift a ton of weight haha, he works for gold's gym and a second job with a landscaping company. We have one in 8th grade and one will start kindergarten next year.

Too tired to say more, just got my fat body back from a 16 mile bike ride with my 16 year old son, ya while others are in school.

Schools in general are not the real world. Public or Private. Schools, by design, are isolated.

Parents should guide their children in dealing with and developing relationships with teachers, coaches, and playmates.

When parents are a child's only teachers, coaches, and playmates the child is robbed of valuable life lessons.
