    Asbestos Island Schools

Cannon Design stated in Dispatch that asbestos abatement(part of capital project) will be a common factor in all the Island schools. If you have children attending any of the Island schools during this asbestos removal please be vigilant as to any problems you may notice during this abatement program. Do not take for granted that it will be automatically safe during this process. The slightest asbestos particle breathed in by your child can cause a serious problem 20 yrs later. There will be no immediate physical ailment. See any concern report it immediately to the superintendent or to our local fire dept. This can be very serious to your child and to the teachers and workers at all the schools. Work may be done in the evening or summer but any asbestos dust particle left in the school and ingested by your child or breathed in by your child can be very serious . Be concerned, ask questions, and under no circumstances assume the work will be done with no flaws for human error by the workers can totally change your child's future.

but listen to your doctor and feel safe and content injecting your kid with dozens of vaccines which contain mercury and cause life altering syndromes, such as Autism, which is currently the highest it has ever been in history.... But so are the amount of inocculations. Cause you know, big pharma would NEVER hurt our children LOL

I am not sure what you are saying in relation to asbestos. Are you not concerned about asbestos? You don't have to believe your doctor but unless you want to homeschool your child has to go to school . If you don't want your child vaccinated don't but seems pretty foolish not to.

fp2206, look up the ingrediants of Thiomersal. Then look up its ingrediants, then, look up how the body matabolises the mercury from a somewhat harmless type to an extremely dangerous type.

Please keep in mind the dangers of asbestos. 20 yrs from ingesting it or inhaling it one can come down with a life threatening condition.

not on this forum It is very hard to keep sports threads moving here.
Do you have any idea how much asbestos we are talking about .
is it one area of the school or all over.
Does the contract carry an abatement clause as a precaution or is there actually asbestos present.
I have removed insulation from pipes and walls that we treated as if they were asbestos and found out later that it wasn't the contract just called for us to treat it that way for safety. It is hard to argue a subject when the person who brought it up does not provide much imformation

Soon our BOE will be choosing a contractor to build a new transportation center(bus garage) The old garage if demolished will surely have a asbestos problem due to many things but especially brake problems for so many yrs. Hopefully this demo will take place in a time when the children and teachers will not be in Sidway. The weird part of this new garage is that it will be built on the Sidway property taking over park land and close to the hi tension wires and homes nearby.I believe those living near where this new garage will be built will be up in arms as to this garage being built so close to them .Every cold day when the buses are started early the nearby residents will indeed hear the buses running around 6am The BOE was moving the old garage because of the fumes from buses getting into the school. So for a million dollars we move it 500 feet. So unbelievable in my opinion. But remember parents and teachers don't be over confident that all will be safe in this asbestos removal, please be vigilant to this process. Any concerns call the school Superintendent Robt Christmann. Don't wast your time calling the garage , Mr Christmann makes a lot of money , it his his responsibility to answer your concerns.

It seems the system mentioned the asbestos abatement to fulfill their legal responsibility. Now all is quiet. I want to keep it in the forefront for parents to be very cautious when they start seeing construction work being done. Asbestos poisoning does not show its ugly face for up to 20 yrs after exposure. When construction begins keep a cautious eye on dust around your child . Residents living nearby the construction should also be aware of this dust. If you notice call the fire dept or the school superintendent directly.

The cost to demolish the old bus garage will be way over what our BOE estimates. A garage of this sort will have to be totally treated for asbestos removal. The cost for demos has skyrocketed over the years due to asbestos removal.Just the installation of brake pads over the years warrants a total asbestos abatement. A cleanup and reuse of the existing garage would be more feasible than a demolition and new build. But whats a few extra hundred thousand to our BOE.Will our kids be more educated with a new bus garage, for they say its all for the kids.
