    We need to set rules

    You know us tax payers pay all the bills you think they would give us a voice is how things are done around here in WNY.

    We need to draft up the rules for "OUR" employees to follow. I'm not trying to sound like a nut case but if we don't set the rules how can we expect them to follow?

    I mean rules such as....

    You are caught stealing your fired

    we consider stealing:

    taking of cash

    taking of city property of any kind

    working a little slow so you can add some over time to your check

    Not being at work but perhaps receieving a check


    Rules of patronage:

    taking a position knowing you are not qualified for that position

    giving a job to someone not qualified for a position

    YOu move someone to a new position seeing you want your friend to have that position.

    If you work for us and you see obvious patronage you must report it.

    Drinking:

    You are drunk on the job 3 times you are fired. No we will not pay for your rehab nor should a insurance company.

    Rules like that

    How should we expect all which includes county workers etc to behave and act at work?


    We've never told them, we always had "thier" unions tell us how they will be.

    SO what rules would you think would be could for buffalo and the surrounding area. Serious ones, no jokes.

    The use of county vehicles for "quickies" is cool as long as the employees are not collecting our tax dollars at the same time.

    Three times drunk on the job does seem a little much, unless you are talking about the morning. Mornings after Patty's Day, home Bills games, and after Sabres playoff games should be exempt. The alcohol's not out of your (aka my) system yet.

    Lunch beers are different. I think there's no need to slug four Gennys at lunch.

    I suppose I'm also guilty of the 'work a little slow' dealie. When I used to work with a time clock, I'd wait an extra three minutes before clocking out.

    I like how you included the 'qualified' into the patronage requirements. If the person's qualified for the position I don't care who it goes to. I'd hire somebody I already know before hiring somebody I don't too, as long as they're qualified.

    My one rule, unless you already said it:
    No inventing patronage positions. Nobody needs an office Recycle Manager to collect old papers and put them in a blue bin for $50,000.

    One I'd like to see...

    How about: If you're unhappy about the way things are going, you retalliate against the taxpayers (throw garbage and garbage cans around, or triple the amount of tickets you write) you're GONE.

    Now Res, I think this whole idea has a big problem.

    Unless you're the Diktator of Speakup (like you, oh exalted one), a society sets rules based on the consensus of what's appropriate.

    That's gonna be tough with this crew.

    For example, IIRC, Treeguy says he tolerates an "acceptable" amount of goofing off by his guys (although, I think the amount that's "acceptable" will move in inverse proportion to Treeguy's age.

    So.......
    if you believe Treeguy owns a business
    and if you believe he tolerates goofing off
    and if you believe that both conditions can occur without a matter/antimatter explosion immediately occuring

    Then.....
    his idea of what rules there should and mine are so far apart that it's not going to be worth pursuing.

    But then again, I could be wrong.

    1. I think if a person comes to work drunk or gets caught drinking on the job, they should be fired on the spot.

    2. The "Coffeebreak". This one is definitely needs to be changed. I watched last year and the year before that , while a workcrew was rebuilding a section of road. They would get to work first thing in the morning, and 1 1/2 to 1 hour and 45 minutes later, a COFFEE TRUCK would show up on the jobsite. Those workers ran to that coffee truck each and everytime it showed up. They put no more than an hour and forty five minutes of work in and they suddenly need a coffee break!!?????

    3. One man digging in a ditch while three of his co-workers stand around and watch him work

    4. The 5:00 PM whistle.. People will leave work as soon as the 5:00 pm bell rings. I have often seen a jobsite left an utter mess and the excuse the workers give is "Well, it was quittin time". Won't even clean up after themselves at the end of the day.

    I think writing tickets is awesome as long as they are not twisting the rules to just give out a ticket. If you are parked illegally... or driving a car that reallly isn't safe. or speeding.. or what ever you should get a ticket. If you are not accountable for your actions you actions will grow worse. Just look how the politicians are who are not accountable.

    writing tickets for parking meter overtime is lame, they should be solving homicides, protecting banks and arressting drug dealers

    They why have a traffic division? I thought there was a department just for this type of stuff and departments for those other things.

    Because they found they needed people who could write tickets with the left hand and right hand simultaneously.

    They also needed Mother Teresa candidates. On the first of each month, these Saints of the Tarmac fly up and down City streets looking for people with inspection stickers the night before. If you think City employees move slowly, you haven't seen these folks at work. They manage to canvass every singleCity street in one day.
