I see you are all fired up now Slitter. That’s good. I am sorry to disappoint you though. I knew where Boston keeps the tanker. It is up on the hill. It does not fit in their current hall. I’ve been there. I know.

I’m sorry you somehow decided I did not know where it was. You are mistaken. I know where every single piece of fire fighting apparatus is in this Town. I can even tell you when one of them is out of service.

As far as our other hill, well that is where Patchin has the big V-10 Suburban parked. It is not a Chiefs’ vehicle, but it sure looks like one. Most people never see it. It just sits there although I know it was used for a wedding last year.

Do you have any more questions about the fire fighting equipment in this Town?

Also, I did not “just call” Hamburg dispatch for the information. I receive monthly written reports. Do you want to know the busiest time of day for calls in Town? Do you want to know the busiest day of the week? Just ask. I can give it to you and I don’t have to call anyone.

All this truth must really be starting to hurt. -jay

You should reword your statement. There is a difference between a few tax bucks above people's lives versus spending money on items that don't directly make a difference. IE: Building a cool equipment utility garage versus a building what is more of a recreational hall that guys park the equipment in. Personally I would rather have more cool fire fighting toys in a less expensive steel frame building that less toys in an overly built brick building.

For the calendar year 2011 the Town of Boston fire companies responded as follows:

Boston Fire Company 78 firematic calls 3 structure fires 7 auto fires
    8 EMS calls

Patchin Fire Company 39 firematic calls 4 structure fires 4 auto fires
    78 EMS calls

North Boston Fire Company 67 firematic calls 7 structure fires 3 auto fires
    7 EMS calls

The Boston Emergency Squad ran 419 calls in 2011.
Question.. What is the total budget for all three companies?.

I'm curious to see what is cost is per 419 calls. I still think it would be interesting to chart these numbers against all of the volunteer companies in Erie County.

For the calendar year 2012, the fire company costs are as follows:

Each company receives a contractual payment of 154,912.00.
The Town pays Workers Compensation insurance in the amount of 49,850.35.
The Town pays Hamburg dispatch 54,000.00.
The Town pays for the yearly physicals 4,000.00.
The Town contributed 190,000.00 for the Service Award Program.

    154912.00
    154912.00
    154912.00
    49850.35
    54000.00
    4000.00
    190000.00
    762586.35

There were 256 dispatched calls that were answered by one or more of the fire companies in 2011.

The 419 call figure that you cited in your question is the number of calls for the Boston Emergency Squad. They are a separate entity in Town and not associated with the fire service in terms of contracts or costs.

All 3 fire companies are properly credentialed non-profit organizations and as such, they are tax-exempt for the purpose of property taxes in Town. -jay

I believe the reason Boston Fire Trucks are not replaced every 5 years is because after looking at the number Mr. Boardway stated the trucks simply do not get wore out. How many miles are put on a fire truck in a year? are they driven every day? They certainly look brand new and clean anytime I see them out at.

I believe there are Truck checks periodically that would prevent Trucks from breaking down at the wrong time. Am I right Slitter? except for one Hall on the Hill that never gets to see daylight were Jim and Rich hide there Fire Convention Vehicle. The big V10 Mr Boardway spoke about.

How does a fire Hall get wore out I ask? Slitter? maybe from neglect, I drove by the Patchin Hall on the hill and the sign is falling off and needs to be painted. I wonder who the Captain of that Hall is?

And from talking to a few seniors in town that have served many many many years as voluteers in town Patchin ignores that Hall its a garage to hide the Fire Convention Vehicle for Jim and Rich to only drive out of town in.

So I am not that big of a moron Slitter I know a lot about whats going on. I also know scott air tanks are replaced all the time for the interior fire fighter. So yes I am quite concerned about the safety of our firemen in town and the familes that live in town.

There will always be people living in fear and while that’s a reality, it’s still very very sad.

From Patchin Fire Hall to Boston Fire Hall is 2.1 miles.

The members, equipment and resources of Boston should be consolidated into Patchin.

Posting a complex every two miles throughout the community won’t calm the fearful, nor will spending at any level. There are many who respect those who serve, but manage to keep their fears in check.

Emergency response vehicles traveling 2.1 miles down 391, even at rush hour, will add two minutes to an emergency call.

Evaluate your exit plan and address your fears.

The Post Office isn’t trying to buy faster & taller jeeps and neither should Boston!

And that is what Boston is proposing to build, A 4 bay steel garage. No hall, No members room, No bar, Nothing more than a steel garage.

Yes trucks that do not get used much do wear out, from age. Rust and corrosion in the pumps, seals that dry out and leak and fail. If anything, trucks that are used more are better off than a truck that sits. Metal pumps, valves, and standing water do not mix well. The outside that you see does look nice, because whenever the firemen get back from a call if it is salty or muddy, they wash the truck. That keeps the outside looking new, what fails is the pump and seals.

As for a hall wearing out, no, they do not wear out. They get too small for todays larger equipment.

Your friend jay agrees Boston needs a new hall, and hes one of the biggest "lowering your taxes" guys around.

This is there current facility. There are three trucks and a utility vehicle in there. The new building will be a 4 bay steel garage so each truck has its own bay.

The larger part is a banquet hall and a members room. They tried to sell it a few years ago but had no takers. They want to build the new one so they can replace an aging truck soon (new ones arent short enough to fit in the old one), and then they will probably try to sell it again. They dont want such a large building anymore. Its too epensive to heat and maintain for the few events a year held there. Who knows, maybe if they cant sell it they can tear it down just to save the utility costs.

What about tearing it down and placing a steel framed building on that spot?

Tearing down the lodge would be just plain spiteful - you'd regret it and then tell us you want it back .

    Remember, you're on the fence.

    Why?

It is just a building that isn't being utilized if I am understanding what the other poster is saying..

Have you researched some of the cool efficient equipment garages some communities have around the USA?
