Missy O. Health food for thee, not me.

The White House Sunday epically failed to practice what its first lady preaches, serving the nation’s governors a more than 2,000 calorie dinner even as Michelle Obama traverses the country promoting health eating.

While Michelle lectures children to cut out the fat and eat their vegetables unadorned with caloric sauces, she served the governors – who are in Washington for their annual meeting – a feast that included adipose-marbled steak, vegetables slathered with dairy enhancements, and dessert.

The White House has proposed mandating meals for elementary school kids that include none of these items, or anything like them. Here, for example, is the Wednesday lunch from a proposal on the White House website.

Chef’s salad: (1 cup romaine, .5 oz low-fat mozzarella, 1.5 oz grilled chicken) with whole wheat bread
    Soft pretzel (2.5 oz)
    Corn, cooked (1/2 cup)
    Baby carrots, raw (1/4 cup)
    Banana
    Skim chocolate milk (8 oz)
Low fat ranch dressing (1.5 oz)
Low fat italian dressing (1.5 oz)

    Here’s what the governors got:

    Garden salad
    Bread and butter
    Ribeye steak 12 oz
    Creamed spinach
    Crab mac and cheese
    Pear tart with ice cream
    White wine

Are arguing we should feed unhealthy food to school kids?

Or are you arguing the president and first lady should treat state governors like children?

I'm sure she would have if she was hosting a dinner for school children.

But she wasn't. she was hosting a dinner for adults.

Here's an idea - why don't all the conservatives practice what they preach when it comes to abstinence? Oh wait, could it because they are not children?

Here is an idea. It's about health right? To force a businesses to pay for someone else's recreation birth control pills right? Health reasons? The pills are for "Adults" not children because of health reasons. Right?

Well Adults have to be healthy. Well they better eat their broccoli now and healthy food. Can't have it both ways.

businesses owned by Roman Catholics are forced to pay for other people's divorces. Should they be able to elect out of the costs of facilitating divorce?

What? WHen was the last time a lawyer billed another business versus the two people who want a divorce?

I don't think you're a stupid man (although you do start a lot of stupid threads) , so I really don't need to be telling you this, but I"ll say it anyway -

There is nothing wrong with someone eating healthy, and promoting a healthy diet, all the while having an occasional decadent meal. And, I know that you know this. So, would you start such a stupid thread?

    Huh?

Without the courts to process and enforce divorces and divorce agreements, there would be no divorces.

every Roman Catholic who pays state and local taxes is paying to facilitate divorce - no different then paying into an insurance plan that provides coverage for contraceptives.

And I haven't heard of the Church ever refusing to comply with a Qualified Domestic Relations Order.

Is this seriously what politics has come down to? Arguing over what the White House served to governors. This is pathetic. People that wonder why our country is in trouble need look no further than most of the threads in this section. It's all petty BS talking points that get us nowhere.

And does anyone else find it completely absurd that you believe the First Lady had anything to do with this meal, as if she specifically identified and ok'd all the food to be served?

Why wouldn't she be involved with this meal if she wants to put her two cents in what we all eat? Isn't it supposed to be what is good for the goose is good for the gander.. something on that order?

uh...the difference is that what's not good for the goslings isn't necessarily not good for the goose and the gander. Like firearms. And matches. And alcohol. And abstinence.

    Good answer Res.
    I'll second that.

Same as a parent who tells their children not to smoke and drink, while he has a beer in his hand and a butt hanging out of his mouth.
