So who do we want for Mayor of Buffalo?

So what would be best for Buffalo? Mayor Brown seems flat as Mayors go... There is like no energy there....It is like having an empty suit as a figure head.

It is not about what people want but rather what they need. Big difference.

I would actually say Buffalo does not need a mayor. It should expand the council and hire a city manager. It needs people with skill rather than pols running the show.

I think Buffalo needs a cheerleader. A real cheerleader. I'm gonna be frank now. No one has impressed me that Lenny has endorsed... or any other party for that matter.. There was talk that Frank Max would take Lenny's place? Who the hell would even entertain that thought.

So who will we have to pick from? Personally I don't give a rat's ass about ether the democratic or republican party anymore. One party is self serving and the other is inept if they can't market a product against Mark Poloncarz...

That is why you hire a city manager. The CC members get to play politics in the sandbox and the city manager does the work. Even better...a small group of people can control who gets elected to the council. For example..not many union members like cops or fire who live on the east or west side of town.

Whether you like him or not he would be better than most anyone the democratic party would put forward... They will only put someone that would benefit the local democratic party and jobs they can grab hold of.... screw the kids in our community...I'm not saying he would be the best choice either but better than most...

Local democrat party gave us Mark...

Poloncarz, Legislature at odds over way to pay for lawsuit settlement

    Updated: January 11, 2012, 6:28 AM
Erie County lawmakers disagree over how to pay a $7 million legal settlement for a woman who was brain-damaged after she nearly drowned in a public pool in 2009.

County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz wants the county to borrow the money. Republicans in the County Legislature want the county to pay at least a portion of the settlement directly.

“We just feel that if you pay cash for that, we don’t have to pay the interest,” said Legislature Minority Leader John J. Mills.

The county in December agreed to settle a personal-injury lawsuit that alleged the county failed to properly train or supervise lifeguards working at a West Side Buffalo pool in August 2009 when Jannette Morales, then 37, nearly drowned. The county at the time operated the city-owned pool.
Lawmakers, however, can’t agree how to pay the settlement.
Go read the full story in Buffalo's #1 News paper.

    $7 million legal settlement

A Poloncarz aide, however, told legislators last week that low interest rates make borrowing an attractive alternative.
No it doesn't. Not if you have the cash. $7 million is a drop in bucket in a billion dollar budget. 900,000 or so people in erie county. That is about $7.77 a person and be done with it. Why even waste time on this? Wasn't our sales tax up this year?

    Plus

The Republicans contend that between a projected year end surplus for 2011 of about $26 million and another $83 million in the county’s undesignated fund balance, the county has enough cash to pay at least a portion of the settlement now.
A Poloncarz aide, however, told legislators last week that low interest rates make borrowing an attractive alternative.

“We believe a more cautious approach is necessary,” said Mark Cornell, Poloncarz’s director of policy and communications.

    Nope.

According to court documents, Morales was found, facedown, by her son as they swam in the city’s Rees Street pool in August 2009. Lifeguards on duty, court documents alleged, were inattentive, talking or texting on cellphones that afternoon, and they never realized Morales was in trouble. It was her son who pulled her from the pool and began CPR.
Why are we as a community paying for this? Why are the people who weren't paying attention liable?

I want anyone who reads this to remember this election time. This is what the democratic party endorses.

That would mean someone would have to actually run against Brown in an election.
Last time nobody could be bothered to even try.

So who do we want for Mayor of Buffalo?

Bernard Tolbert. Once the situation with claims of impropriety aganist him are cleared up, he would be the best choice. He has no organization. It would need to be grass roots. Brown must have shelf life problems by now. Tolbert was FBI head here in Buffalo. The Feds get into security clearances so problems with developer friends and owing allegiance to parties are not involved. He was also head of security for the NBA and went to China olympics with them. He may still be in that job. He doesn't need another pension so if he wants to run for Mayor it is because he thinks he can do a good job. In Buffalo, one of the biggest problems is crime. He may not be able to do anything about poverty nright away but prudent use of the block grant and billions from Cuomo may help.

Maybe there is some value in taking a survey from all the block/community groups in Buffalo. See who's name comes up most often.

One word of advice. You need to drop the "conservative/liberal" topics out of the loop. Focus on the items that benefit Buffalo as City. As Lefty said "a city manager" would not set policy on "conservative/liberal" topics so there is no reason to bring those up. It's about making an environment that businesses and people can prosper.

    My humble opinion.....

For starters our local core democratic party sells a bill of goods that mostly benefits the party not the community as a whole. (I don't mean democrats as a whole) If anyone disagrees with me they are blind to what goes on in local politics..I can easily point out the mailers our own town democrats sent out for elections. They will point blank mislead to win an election. If I ran for office I would not send lies out to win an election. Your misleading the community right off the start even before your elected? What is up with that?

Second I would say your community/block groups. How many block groups are there in Buffalo? These are the people that accomplish positives for the most part. The ones getting their hands dirty. Out of all the volunteers and community activist there should be one that is superior to anything person the local democratic party will offer. Maybe they are not at fault because of my first comment. They are sold a bill of goods that doesn't benefit the community as a whole. Mislead in general. BUT if you join our party and support us you may hit the jackpot and get a job.

    As for no nogods comment.

No he would not. He's a joke. He just doesn't know the punch line.
He has produced more jobs and rehabbed more buildings that any person the local democratic party ever ran as mayor or just about any other position in erie county. True or False? Correct me if I am wrong. Sometimes you need to take the bad with the good.

Where the hell is Alan Bedenko on this topic? Mr. "We need a sales tax free zone in Buffalo".
