    Exclamation Puppy Mill "Protest"

On Sunday, September 21, 2008 (1-4pm) there will be a peaceful demonstration in front of Steves Wonderful World of Pets, on Sheridan Dr. in Williamsville.

Steves pets is a large seller of puppies. The puppies, sadly, originate from puppy mills. Puppy mills are large breeding facilities that produce puppies in mass on a factory farm-like setting. The mother and fathers are kept in tiny cages, their ENTIRE life, NEVER let out, until they are of no use and then are killed or sold at auctions. We must stop supporting mills and shut them down.

To learn more visit this site:

We are looking for people who would like to speak out and let Steves and other pets stores no that we will not stand for this!

If you can attend or would like more information, please email:
    speakingoutforanimals@yahoo.com

    THANK YOU!

zoe , I'm ALL for ending these puppy mills , as I have a great dog that took about a year to "overcome" his treatment of even being born on one of these puppy mill farms , but what concrete proof do you have that Steve's obtains their puppies from these mills ? several animal control officers have told me they have no knowledge of this , have never even fielded a complaint about Steve's ?

    I think it's a great cause.

BTW, the link didn't work. Here it is:

Winfield, I've always assumed that any pet store that sells puppies is getting them this way. There is absolutely no reason to buy a puppy from a pet store.

all of my dogs have come from the SPCA in my life , this last one specifically was from a puppy farm & was severely mistreated , I don't want to assume that all pet stores sell these puppy mill dogs , but if true , I want to march into these stores & kick some A$$ !!

There really isn't any place else for these stores to get their dogs. Reputable breeders won't sell to the stores, they do their own selling.

My first foster was a puppy mill male springer spaniel. Our rescue bought him at a puppy mill auction in Missouri. He was used for breeding. He was about 3 yrs old when I got him. He didn't know how to go up and down stairs. The alarm clock, blow dryer, doorbell, television, and all of the other noises we take for granted, would startle him. He never walked on a leash and didn't know any commands.

I'm all for going to this peaceful protest. Anyone else want to go? Win? rising?

Zoe25, I would like to attend. Can this also be used as a way to promote rescue organizations? What about bringing your own dogs?

    Steves Pets demonstration...

    Hi Everyone!

Thank you for all the postive responses!

Anyone can come to the protest! Any rescue organization that would like to get involved is encouraged to come. Contact me for more information and so I know how many to expect.

The news stations also will be contacted and asked to come, which will be great publicity for puppy mills! So the more people, the bigger the impact.

I will have flyers to hand out to customers, and a couple posters... but if you have time, make your own poster to bring (such as Boycott stores that sell puppies! or Puppy Mills Breed Misery, add pics... be creative!)

    It will be between 12:30-4pm

This is my first time planning, so any help or ideas is greatly appreciated! THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR CARING! They need our voice.

    Proof please!

As a member with SUWNY, I find it disturbing that we would promote a protest demonstration against a local business without proof of the alligations.
Protesting well documented political waste and fraud is easy to prove.

It would be wrong to take the word of an anynonmous poster with an unknown agenda at their word.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm asking for you to prove your claim.

So far ZoE25 has not done that.

    From Steves website:
Upon arriving, Steve's puppies are first examined by a veterinarian and then rested. Because puppies are more at risk for infections and diseases, such as parvo, all vaccinations are scrupulously up to date. Ellyn Lane, co-owner of Steve's Wonderful World of Pets and a licensed veterinarian technician, cares for the puppies well-being and ongoing social development under the supervision of Dr. Newman, the store's supervising veterinarian. The puppies are exercised on a regular schedule, allowed to play together throughout the day, and quartered solitarily at night to promote rest and stress reduction.

your "edit" after your first original post is basically what I've heard about Steve's , but of course this is coming from their web-site , still , no one has proven any wrong doing to warrant a protest , IMHO.............

I would hate to see SUWNY become associated with a false claim against a local business. It's hard eough to earn a living in WNY without being falsley accused of improper treatment of animals.

Does SUWNY really want to be known for promoting protests against legitimate local business?

We need to have some documentation and the true names of those who are orginizing this protest.
If they are legit about their cause they should have no issue coming forward with their real bio's.

actually , if anyone from SUWNY should go to this protest , they'd be representing themselves , as I'm sure if you stated you represented SUWNY , a large MB , Steve's could probably have a potential lawsuit against the res , & we don't want that , esp. since myself & zanna are finalists for that contest prize............

LH - when I saw that you were the last to reply to this, I, literally, laughed.

Res - don't give into him. Allowing this post to be here is, in, no way, shape, or form, an endorsement of the protest.

LH - who the hell are you trying to fool by copying and pasting from Steve's website? Do you expect them to say "we get our puppies from only the best puppy mills!"

The bottom line is that there is absolutely no reason for anyone to purchase a puppy from a pet store. Period.
There are tons of local, reputable breeders around - where you can go visit them at thir homes and see how the puppies are raised. It makes absolutely no sense to buy a puppy at a pet store. The only reason people buy them there is impulse.

Furthermore, and just as importantly, there are TONS of local puppies at shelters that are available for next to nothing.

LH - you want proof that they came from a puppy mill? That would impossible, because I suppose "puppy mill" may be too loosely defined. But, anyone who gives a **** about animals knows the truth.

my posts #2 & #4 put me into a quandary........?? As I wrote , I've spoken with animal control people , they've never had any charges about Steve's , no one really has shown 100% proof of any wrong doing by them , shouldn't the "actual" puppy mills/farms be picketed ? I just can't nor can assume that these pet stores get all of their puppies from puppy farms where all the animals are mistreated , but again , if I found out about one , I think most in here would want to go in & kick some serious a$$ !!
