    Venison and Food Banks

I saw a brochure last year about a few places that will take deer and clean them and donate to the food banks. Does anyone know how much gets to the food bank and what they do with it? (besides the obvious answer of cooking it)
I also wonder if they do other animals, like rabbit or turkeys?

It depends on the source. If you're a hunter and you want to donate the entire deer or just parts, they take what you give.

    And, remember, parts is parts....

To the best of my knowledge they will take other animals.

    venison

many food banks used to give it out frozen and some "soup kitchens" used to cook it. Lime desease has just about stopped all of this. Venison does not get inspected like processed meat does. In the past some hunters hunted just to give the food banks venison, some because they only wanted the trophy others because they thought it was a way to help the less forunate. I realy dont know of any that still take it
Don't judge someone just because they sin differently than you

I kinda wondered if that had any effect.
I have about 15 deer that hang out on or near my property. I wouldn't mind seeing a few of them go, but I think we've been rezoned from Ag/Res to strictly Res. I assume that means no hunting.

    Thanks gs.
I love rabbit, but I've never really had wild rabbit. I would imagine it doesn't taste quite the same.

And as to the parts is parts... yuck! lol

500 feet from a building to hunt is what stops hunting in most of Erie county.basicly it is outlawed inside southwestern blvd and transit road you cant hunt.some areas of the county might be farther then 500 feet from a building. but not much. res. or agr. zoning means little
