Niagara Aerospace Museum is moving to Buffalo!!! YEA!!!

No its not huge but its going to do a heck of alot more business in Buffalo than in Niagara Falls...many of its exhibits are from former Buffalo manufacturers

If anyone knows how to get WWII Curtis Jennys for the Aerospace Museum then please contact them (they are rare and difficult to find if they are unrestored)

That was really the big flaw in the Buffalo Air and Naval Museum in that its major exhibits had no connection to Buffalo. They were ocean ships and they were not built in Buffalo. Were any of the crew members from Buffalo?

Now there is the potential to have something that really tells a story of our city and region.

Now fellow Buffalonians can we please get a new convention and conference center built over at a rewatered Ohio Basin.

    Stupid question time again....

Is this the Niagara Aerospace Museum that was near the Casino in Niagara Falls?

Why did it close, go out of business, and/or just plain fail in Niagara Falls?

Where, in Buffalo will it be located?

    Enough question for now.

I never had a problem with the Buffalo Air and Naval Museum. That's another place I visit at least once a year. I take out-of-town visitors, relatives, etc. Everyone I've gone with seems to like it. I don't think the lack of connection to Buffalo makes a difference. The older folks relate well with the connections to WWII and the kids love the ships, weapons, etc. And, there is a War of 1812 exhibit inside, with direct connections to WNY. (This isn't a criticism, it's just an expression of my experiences.)

Combining the Niagara Air Museum with the Buffalo Air and Naval Museum, if that's what they're going to do, is a grand idea.

There is a nice auto museum in the Pierce Arrow Museum. There is a great bicycle museum in Orchard Park, and an aviation museum would be really nice in Buffalo as well. The only problem would be to find a building big enough. Perhaps locating it near the Pierce Arrow Museum would be best. The closer museums are to each other the better because they somewhat help each other.
Obviously, the Serviceman's Park would be another location.

Something near the Pierce-Arrow would be great. I can look out right now and see that there are more than a couple of facilities around there. It would be a great double trip for transportation buffs!

And the carousel museum is a total joke. Even my 6 year old couldn't get interested....ITS A FREAKING MERRY-GO-ROUND!!
    But your being a dick

The Buffalo News article answered my questions.

Yes, the museum was located near the casino and lost its lease: "The museum has been renting space in the former Niagara Office Building in downtown Niagara Falls but lost its spot when the building was taken over by Seneca Gaming in 2004 as part of its casino complex." *

It didn't fail or go out of business, it simply lost it's lease. It also seems to have a healthy endowment: "The bequest is what’s left from a $1 million donation five years ago by Dr. Elizabeth Olmsted Ross, a Buffalo ophthalmologist and former pilot who died last September. At the time, she was the only woman on the museum’s board.

Ross had stipulated that payment of the balance was contingent on moving the museum to Buffalo" *

The museum will be located: "The board of trustees is considering at least two possible sites, near the Buffalo Transportation Museum in the area of Michigan Avenue and Seneca Street or at the Buffalo & Erie County Naval and Military Park at the foot of Main Street, said Richard Byron..." *

I don't like to see Niagara Falls lose an attraction. On the other hand, this will be great for Buffalo.

timmy--there's a huge war plane cemetery outside of Vail,Arizona. I passed by it and there are literally thousands of planes. I'll get the name of it for you.

I wonder if the F16's with the structural flaw will end up there too. (I might be wrong on the type, but, it's a fighter jet that Homeland Security stopped using)

The Niagara Falls Aerospace museum was a great place to take visitors. It's too bad for Niagara Falls.

I hope the Aerospace will do well in Buffalo.

Does anyone know what the senecas will do with building? Admin., conference center?

There is a beautiful auditorium in that building that holds about 100 people on the second floor.

An old Jenny is being re-furbished by an old pro.

    Good luck Ray!

Isn't there any Curtis planes in storage at the old Bell warehouse?
