    Haxton Vs "The Machine"?

Lack of ethics in Lackawanna politics is legendary, but Haxton's financial mess makes her highly vulnerable politically. And it discredits her judgment in managing others resources when she apparently cannot manage her own.

Here is Haxton's latest $3792 lien filed days ago by the water Authority.

No surprise given the connections LA democrats have at the Water Authority. Not condoning her non-payment, just the bullying she is subject to by the good old boys.

    Help needed

    Listen up, everyone!

This site has been dedicated to righting the wrongs (or at least b**tching about them) that our elected REPRESENTATIVES impose on us.

There is a severe wrong on the horizon that could be a dangerous precedent on people's civil rights.

The LA city council passed a law that may allow for the removal of any elected official who owes back taxes.

I am not condoning anyone not paying their taxes, however, there are already remedies in the law, such as penalties and foreclosure.

The real issue is that the topic of this forum, Andrea Haxton, has been documented to owe taxes. So the Mayor and his four henchmen on the Council have legislated to get rid of the only thorn in their side.

You see, Andrea is the only one to ask questions of their well controlled dictatorship. So, the solution is to destroy her and get rid of her. Again, she isn't perfect, but I don't think this is the right solution and the precedent is downright scary.

What's next, speak up at a meeting and have your house taken away? I wish some of the fine minds on this website would look into this, ask some questions and give this woman some help. If nothing else but to protect the innocent.

This Mayor is under investigation for election law violations. He offered future employment for support in his election - and was caught on tape. Interviews have occurred but no one has heard anything else from the DA's office.

Meantime, numerous laws are violated every day. Just that those in power keep it quiet, turn their head, or ignore it for their own convenience.

We need to help this woman to stop them from hurting others. This isn't just for residents of LA, check the hiring at the Water Authority to benefit the Lackawanna politicians. That affects everyone!

    Removing Haxton goes too far

    LA:

I agree that the council's plan to remove Haxton over her delinquent taxes goes too far. That's what elections are for, when taxpayers can express their concerns. There are remedies in law for Haxton, as for any other tax delinquent.

Once again DA Frank Clark is helping to perpetuate a culture of corruption by doing nothing about the Lackawanna Mayor's apparent blatantly illegal election misconduct. Clark did basically the same by alleging that obvious theft of Sloan Village funds by now-disbarred Town Atty (& former County Legislator) David Dale & the Village Clerk was of no concern to him.

The present campaign for DA needs to refocus on Frank Clark's repeated refusal to prosecute political corruption & white collar crime, as he is mandated to do.

    Can't argue

    Can't argue with you Kern.

The reality here is in the MAyor's case, someone lost a very good job with very good benefits because he refused to support him. I have heard that he wasn't an exemplary employee, but that makes it worse. The chief exec (mayor) was willing to overlook that if it benefited him.

On the other side of scuttlebut. It has been mentioned that the Mayor had his henchmen build the case against this guy, just to get him out, so the Mayor could hire his own son! Must have found another way since both his kids work for the City now (and live at home with Daddy). Lot's of taxpayers $$$ in that house. But, who cares, right - happens every day

Shame of it is the lives that get ruined for this guys ego!

Solution is to get rid of the Mayor and his four henchmen. It's really not hard. I watch Charley Markel get on the Cheektowaga Town Board even though it was by 6 votes. Next round we are going to get rid of more of the politcal party players and put in community minded people.

Charley has already put the stop to wasteful practices that the past town board members let run amonk. They just don't care as long as they get thiers because it's not thier money. I bet you have the same issues in your neck of the woods.

    Agreed

    I agree, Res...EXCEPT

The Mayor is in his last term-can't run again. So he can create as much havoc without having to answer to the electorate. When the City gets sued for his misdeeds, who pays? Oh, yeah, he has managed to squander about $8 million in addtional state aid the City has received over the last 4 years.

The Councilmen are playing nice b/c they want to move up in the ranks - or protect their jobs at the Water Authority or School District. The normal people just think it is the old boys network and that is the way it is.

My problem is the effect on these people's personal lives. Some people treat politics as a game, but the Mayor plays "for keeps." It is really upsetting to see the weak get bullied by this guy.

    Lackawanna Lawmaker in Handcuffs

It appears that Andrea Haxton is digging herself in deeper.

In addition to her property code violations, she has had another $3732 lien filed by the Erie County Water Authority. She has had 15 lien filings with the County Clerk since October 2003.

Lackawanna City Councilwoman Andrea Haxton was taken into custody Friday after she didn't show up for a sentencing on code violations.

Andrea Haxton smiled and joked as she walked into Lackawanna City Court and just moments later, she was arrested.

The City Councilwomen owns a Ridge Road apartment building and store in Lackawanna. In January, she was cited for code violations and was supposed to be sentenced Friday morning.

When she did not show up, the judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest.

Eight hours later, she arrived. Police arrested her and she was lead into court in handcuffs.

Haxton told the judge she didn't know she was supposed to be in court. He let her go on the condition she return October 2nd for sentencing.

2 On Your Side's Kristin Donnelly asks, "Andrea, why didn't you show up today?"

"Because I didn't know about it, that's it case closed. I didn't know about it, it is the truth, it is the truth. I didn't know about this," Haxton answers.

"And will you be here next time?" asks Kristin Donnelly.

    "Well, of course," she answers.

This isn't the only trouble Haxton's facing. She also owes the city thousands of dollars in back taxes.

Lackawanna Mayor Norman Polanski says, "It's a distraction to City Hall. It's an embarrassment to the City of Lackawanna and people to have to go through this time and time again."

The mayor says there's nothing he can do. The voters will have their say next year when Haxton is up for re-election.

    Haxton may not have known

I know first hand how Lackawanna lies about sending court appearance letters, code violation notices, etc. They are all involved with surpressing anyone that speaks up against them. This includes the Judges, the Mayor, Code Enforcement, the Council, etc.

    Haxton fined $1000

It is difficult to see how Haxton can pay a $1K fine when she already has so many outstandiong debts.

She is an embarassment as a city official, but why is the Mayor so involved?

Lackawanna City Councilwoman Sentenced in Court
Posted By: Addie Bradshaw Date last updated: 10/2/2008 5:37:14 PM

    Andrea Haxton

A Lackawanna judge issued his sentence Thursday for City Councilwoman Andrea Haxton.

She was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine based on four different code violations at her Ridge Road property. Mayor Norman Polanski said an investigation by code enforcement officers revealed several issues with the apartment above her former business. He said the problems ranged from drainage issues to electrical hazards.

"They were just terrible conditions to expect someone to live in," Polanski said.

While discussing the matter, Polanski called for Haxton's resignation and said that her personal life had become a sideshow at Lackawanna City Hall.

"It's about time she stopped blaming everybody else and took responsibility for her actions," Polanski said. "Quite frankly, I've had enough of it, and she should resign because she's a disgrace to the city."

Haxton had nothing to say about her case as she left the courtroom. It was the second time in a week that she had been in trouble with a judge. Last Friday, Haxton failed to show for her initial sentencing date. She said then that she was not aware she had to be in court.

"How long does this continue? Sooner or later you have to take responsibility for your actions," Polanski said. " It's not a harsh reaction. It's about time she realize she has a responsibility to this community."

Haxton was in trouble with the city prior to the code violations. The mayor said she has yet to pay thousands of dollars owed in back taxes.

You really can not figure out the answer to your own question? He is involved because he (they) have been trying to get her out of their way since she took office. Sad that men have to continually beat and stomp on this woman when she is already down. Sad community that we live in.

See how many in the community support her? Have a fund raiser to help relieve her back taxes/bills.

Not a bad idea. Are you familiar with running a fund raiser?
