As New York—a city that often has more in common with Europe than with the United States—prepares to be invaded by the red-state hordes during an election that has much of the city fearing the prospect of four more years, a persistent fantasy resurfaces—should New York secede?

How wonderful would it be for us to be rid of New York City? I'm sure there will be a huge taxbase loss to the state, but at the same time, OUR taxes would NOT be lost to NYC.

This is something I have thought about quite a bit. Although, I think Albany should opt to go with NYC. We should centralize the capital, perhaps Syracuse.

Just.... get rid of the misery that has been Albany for so long.

I do know that there are some people in the Buffalo area that are drafting a plan for upstate New York to secede from the state.

In reality, though this could possibly be a total solution to all our problems, it could create more.
Plus, it would take DECADES of discussion. We're better off unifying as a state and throwing these idiots out of office that continue to screw us on an annual basis.
