    Larry Hunter vs Wal Mart

After listing to Larry Hunter on WBEN today spill out his venom against Wal Mart. Larry sound like he has a personal stake in blocking Wal Mart from this area. Do you think he could have a retail store he is trying to protect?

I like lower prices, Larry must not.

Larry wants us to buy goods made in USA. That is hard to do. Go to any mall and check the labels.

I would like to have a Wal Mart in my back yard it would lower my use of gasoline.

Hooray! You want a Wal Mart in your backyard! Contact Wal Mart immediately, and maybe it will leave all the people out there who want nothing to do with Wal Mart alone!!!!!

All parties involved will thank you (except maybe your neighbors, who may not share your sentiments).

Anyone that's worked in advertising (locally) knows Larry Hunter is a complete jerk. He's a guppie in a small pond and acts like he's the big fish.

WBEN's choices of on air personalities is quite strange.

Actually, I think he's mild compared to Bauerly (sp?) and Beach. It makes for a nice contrast.

He has had a vendeta (sp) against them for some time. He has been on the air for a few years.

He had a store in Niagara county I believe, which sold swim wear as one of its products. He would comment on it in the past.

If his company was impacted by wal mart, then all the better to hear his views. Wal Mart is just too big now. It's a near monopoly, and you want happens when a business reaches that level. Bad things.

I never shop at Wal Mart. But, because of all the controversy, I've started going to the one on Transit in Clarence to check prices against other big box stores. So far, I'm not impressed. But I've just started.....I have no doubt that it's reputation for lower prices is legitimate, but I'd like to know just how much lower we're talking about here, and whether it's worth the problems Wal Mart has caused.

I never said Wal-Mart put him out of buseiness, and there was not one close to his store.

al-Mart does not claim to have the lowest prices, but they do have low proces. Also the price of an item in one store can be different than in another. I have also found this to be true between their SAMS club and Wal-Mart.

They do have a policy, that if another place is selling it cheaper, bring in the ad, and they will seel it to you for that price.

I like it for certian items and not for others, and have been shopping at Wal-Marts for more than 20 yrs.

I don't want a walmart or any MORE big box stores that compete with what I do. I'm surprized people never look at the people who have to compete with walmart.

It's funny when the union/government people want thier "salaries/benefits" protected but go shopping at walmart. The local business people want thier business "protected" against a giant who can under cut them badly but we "business" people are the bad guys.

Wall mart does sell many items for lower prices. However, they are quite a bit lower in quality as well. For instance, I started camping a couple of weeks ago, and bought my tent and other supplies at Wal-Mart. Some of the crappiest stuff I've seen, compared to what my friends had (and no, their stuff wasn't from a specialty store....more like Target).

There's the lack of product quality, but there's another principle: If I'm going to spend my money at an establishment, I want a place that's clean, clearly marked, organized, and with knowledgable/courteous/(and here's a big one)FINDABLE customer service. None of the exist at any Wal-Mart I've been to (yes that includes all the ones around here...as well as ones in at least 4 other states).

So yeah, lots of reasons not to go to Wal-Mart...none of which have anything to do with the politics of the situation.
    But your being a dick

Thank you for saying that. It is exactly the truth. IMO, no union member should go anywhere near Wal Mart, because it is the world's largest employer and it treats its employees like....well...I won't say the word. And it is as anti-union as any company can be.

Wal Mart is a cannibal, IMO. People shop there because they can't afford to shop anywhere else ever since they lost their well-paying job at a company put out of business by Wal Mart. It makes me sad.

I remember hearing that Larry Hunter owns the bathing suit store in the plaza on Niagara Falls Boulevard where one finds Outback Steak House.

    Lower Prices

I shop mostly at Wal Mart for food because their prices are generally lower. Wal Mart bakery products prices are much lower. Other brand names that I know such as oil and computer products are generally lower than our local prices. For other items such as clothing, shoes and automotive tires I try to buy from an out of state merchant where I don't have to pay any state sales tax. In many instances I can find one with free shipping.

I usually shop at the Springville Wal Mart. I also drive down to the Indian reservation to get cigarettes for my neighbors and add a little surcharge to the cost of each carton of cigarettes I purchased to cover the cost of the gasoline, so I don't spend any of my money on gas on my trip to Wal Mart. My neighbors appreciate getting their cigarettes at a reduced price.

Because I'm on a fixed income and reside in the land of rising taxes. I must reduce my costs whenever and however I can.

Mr Lackawanna, you sound like a perfect person to help me with my "is Wal mart really cheaper and is it worth it to shop there" experiment. Wanna join up? It will be fun!

    Or

I also drive down to the Indian reservation to buy cigarettes to resell to my neighbors and add a little profit to the cost of each carton of cigarettes I purchased to cover the cost of the gasoline, so I have more money to spend at WalMart. My neighbors appreciate getting their cigarettes at Mr. Lackawanna's Discount Ciggerttes.

Because I'm on a fixed income and reside in the land of rising taxes, I must run a business under the table to make extra money.

Is that even legal to run a business with proper reciepts, permits and stuff?

    You know I like ya.....
