    REGISTERING FIREARMS

A step in the right direction. The fees should be much - much higher like $1,000 & $500 to start.

NYS SENATE S2994: The purpose of this bill is to provide for the registration ($15.00) of firearms by the owner thereof at the county clerks office of thecounty where the owner resides, except in New York City.

This bill incorporates a new section into the New York State Penal Law. 400.02 will state that any person who owns a firearm in New York State needs to register that firearm every year. Along with the annual registration of firearms, there will be other requirements that firearms owners will have to meet in order to legally possess firearms in New York State.

The registration of firearms will be done by mail or if you are residing within a city it may be done at a precinct. This registration should include the description of the firearm, meaning any serial numbers on the firearm, owner's name, address and phonenumber. The location of where the firearm will be located when it is not in use should also be incorporated into this registration.

Also note that a ten dollar fee would be charged for the registration of a firearm. Photo identification will be given to the register owner after he/she has registered their firearm. In this photo identification the description of the firearm will be included. Related story

I wouldn't even consider registering any of mine. They don't know what I own, and they never will.

Who are these dumb-asses that come up with these really piss poor money makers? What would a couple hundred thousand dollars do for the monstrosity known as NYS? The answer? Nothing.

What part of cut spending, cut entitlements don't these bugs get?

I don't know who "Joe" is, but I'll bet if they made him register his Culture Club CD's and assless chaps he'd **** a brick.

Can we please stop feeding this troll? It's bad enough that Joe is an homophobic bigot. The less people that go to his site, the better. I used to read it regularly, but since he's been on this holier-than-thou anti-gun anti-abortion thing, it's been unbearable.

As a matter of fact, voters should be calling up their representatives who advertise on Joe's site to ask why they are supporting someone who hates gays so fervently.

Slow and costly erosion of our rights...

THIS MAY BECOME LAW...but I will proudly VIOLATE this one...I will never register my shotguns/rifles!!
....what's next....license and registration for bicycles???
Why dont they license lawmakers...make them take IQ tests...and pass exams...like a plumber or electrician who wants to be licensed in the city...ata hefty entrance fee!!
How much longer before the citizens of this country go to the streets in masses...like in Libya, or Egypt??

Why can't we have an "elected official" tax. All government elected officials must pay a "support sacrifice" tax. Seeing they like to say we must all make sacrifices even though their raises and bene's cost increases are mostly covered for the most part...

"The location of where the firearm will be located when it is not in use should also be incorporated into this registration."

My firearms are always in use - protecting me and my family from people who wouldn't bother to register their long guns if the law was enacted, and who already haven't bothered to get a permit for their handguns.

So I couldn't put down any answer to that question.

Actually, my only opposition to long gun registration is the fee, but if someone could convince me there would be some benefit to society in general from long gun registration, then I'd even go along with the fee.

This is not a privacy issue. I purchased the guns from a FFL's so they have a record of me and my guns. I also registered the guns for warranty purposes with the manufacturers so they also have a record of me and my guns.

All the shotguns and rifles I purchased from Dick's and Gander Mountain can all be traced to me by some minimum wage employee for those companies.

And based on all the gun related catalogs and email I get, I'm pretty certain the manufacturers sold my name and address on the open market. Me and my guns are no secret.

So it comes down to the money.

The reason that they want to have the location of the weapon when not in use is because there is another piece of legislation making it a law that a firearm must be in a safe or other type of secure location. From what I have read, gun cabinets will no longer be sufficient.

The first step in gun confiscation is gun registration. Go look it up. Every time a government has taken away all the guns they first required registration.

This law is even worse because of the information the government will have.

    Gun owners
    How many guns each
Where they are kept (this is a new piece that has not been used before)

I certainly hope this never becomes law!
