I also heard community residents complaining about the raccoons.

I am wondering why they feel someone else should pay to have then trapped and removed? Why not do that yourself? It's your property isn't it?

If there are 5 homes terroristed by these beast all chip in to by a trap and take them for a ride.

    WNYresident:

I have been a trapper for almost 30 years. Rabies epidemic is the worst I have ever seen it. If you got Coons, Beavers, Muskrats, Skunk, Woodchucks , ect, damaging your property, you can trap them out yourself. No need to be calling some Nusiance Wildlife Trapper to get rid of the problem when you can do it yourself.

I disagree on the last part about taking them for a "ride".LOL
That only makes your (or your neighbors problem), someone else's problem. Best to just use Conibear traps . Gets the job done quick. If you are concerned about catching a dog, there are other traps: Foothold, SoftCatch, Griz Gettrz, ect.

Well the ride would of been a long walk into the back woods here by the creek. probally 1500 feet or so. I dont know if they would acutally find thier way back.

    We got wood chucks!

    Farmall, thanks for the link.

Res, if the Powers That Be even SUSPECT that you came in contact with a rabid amimal, you are in for a forced series of shots. PERIOD, NO ARGUEMENTS.

If you see a raccoon wearing a straw hat and carrying a cane, doing a song and dance act in your driveway in the middle of the afternoon, don't walk up & pet it, or coax it into your car for a humane relocation. Call the proper authoritites and let them deal with it. It's the least they can do. This is one thing that you pay taxes for.

This goes for skunks & bats, also. I know it's prejudiced, but you have to ASSUME that they have rabies.

OH I have seen rabid animals... these are not rabid... These were the tenants that were here when we purchased the house. There are 3 families in the front part of the back yard and probally 4 more sets within the woods.

The possums really only come out at dusk... very rarely do I see one earlier in the day.

They're doing the rabies vacination drops today. They want people to keep the cats and dogs inside or contained for a week so that they don't eat the pellets (they aren't harmful to cats or dogs, they just don't want them to be snacking on them).

Is there any way to find out where in the county they are dropping them?
