    Angry Marilla Reorganizes

"Gertz also appointed Donald Darrow, a councilman with one year of experience on the Town Board, as his deputy supervisor. He succeeds Warren Handley, who had held the job for three years.

Not everyone was enthralled with Gertz’s new direction.

Elizabeth Ackerman, also a council member with a year on the board, criticized Darrow’s appointment as deputy supervisor because of “his lack of experience.” -Buffalo News

Let's also not invite the town attorney to town board meetings becuase we can save money. But what if somebody has a legal question. I could see lawsuits now from people who thought the board acted improperly because they acted without legal advice.

Also heard habitual candidate Earl Gingerich is planning on running again. This guy hasn't won election in more than ten years. Maybe he forgot he lives in Wales. He is the town's Lenny Roberto and Dave Dipietro. Always running because he never gets the hint.

Also heard town clerk wants to give her part time employees paid holidays. Remember, government pays.

I read that too in the paper!!! I thought Handley was the guy who had it on the ball. Didnt he run the Town when Gertz was sick? Doesnt he run all those Christmas events? What a mistake to kick a good man.

I am so tired of seeing Ginergich run every single year. What is his story anyway? I thought Darrow was gonna do the right thing for all the people. I guess not. same ole story.. just different players. This town never gets it.

I cant believe what I read.

I am glad that I dont live there. Paid holidays for part time employees? Maybe they dont get a newspaper or the internet out there because .... we working stiffs lost our benefits. I would be happy to be one of those parttime clerks. How do I apply. My paid days off ran out awhile ago and still no job.

PS>. I am confused.. if they are part time and need time off. cant the Head Clerk schedule around that or is he/she a political hack too and cant run his/ her office. More and more govt agencies are scaling down the office hours and services so we can save money. Not spend it..

    Cool

Jeorge: The head clerk is a she. I think the main problem is ... too much goofing around. When I went there to pay my school tax it was like a party. No offense but I wasnt in a good mood in the first place and then they were all laughing and having a party type day.Never would fly in at my work.

go figure its always a party. Last year the state audit report said that the town clerk's bother-in-law's computer did all the town's computer stuff. And nothing was ever bid out, they just got the work. Sounds like favoritism to me. They must be partying becuase raping the taxpayer is soo lucrative.

do you have to live there to get a job in that office. I need a job!!! displaced when my company left town. I worked there close to 20 years and now my benefits ran out. I would love to work part time with benefits and have a party too.

I have been thinking about this changing of the quard thing that Gertz is taunting as a good idea. Tonite on the news there is only gloom and doom in the State Budget and I am now wondering why... he would switch things up with those that are not so experienced when we need to watch what we do and need to know how to deal with the State. Does the new guy no how?

    THE Audit

For the heck of it, I goggled the audit of which you spoke of.. I couldnt believe what I read.. Supervisor, then councilman gave away money to the Fire Company they somehow took from a resident. $20,000!!!! then you were right.. Town Clerk's brother in law got a no bid contract.. read on.. I couldnt believe it!!!!! Make sure you read the whole copy like the link says

Office Completes Audit of Town of Marilla
New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced his office completed the audit: Town of Marilla - Internal Controls Over Selected Financial Activities.

“My office’s audits of local governments improve their financial management practices,” DiNapoli said. “These audits are tools for local officials to make sure proper policies and procedures are in place to protect taxpayer dollars and provide the best possible service these taxpayer dollars can deliver. Officials in Marilla must put proper controls in place to ensure taxpayer dollars are used more efficiently.”

DiNapoli’s auditors found that the town improperly paid $20,000 in December 2007 to an incorporated fire company for the stated purpose of purchasing a generator. However, town officials stated that the $20,000 was actually loaned to the fire company even though the fire company never received a generator.

Auditors from DiNapoli’s office found that in June 2008, the town received $20,000 from a resident to whom the town had granted a special-use permit with the condition that he donate $20,000 to the fire company. DiNapoli’s auditors noted that the payment of taxpayer money is improper without a statutory or contractual obligation to do so, or without receiving any goods or services in return for the payment. Further, the misleading record of the transaction intentionally circumvented internal controls and compromised the transparency of town operations.

Further, the board did not properly audit claims, instead delegating this responsibility to two board members.

DiNapoli's auditors also found that officials did not properly bid two purchases totaling approximately $90,500 and that the town spent over $182,000 for professional services procured without the benefit of competition, and did not have formal written agreements with the providers.

For a full copy of the audit, see: http://www.osc.state.ny.us/localgov/...10/marilla.pdf

If you have any questions, or would like a comment from the Comptroller’s press office regarding this audit, please call 518-474-4015, or send an email to press@osc.state.ny.us.

I guess nobody cares about the audit. No one else posted here. I thought this new board was going to clean up the public abuse of our money. But not so. I wonder if they have since bid the Town Clerks brother in laws contract out once it was discovered. Or do they still have the no bid? What ever happened to that guys 20 grand? Will that be us next. The town sees an opportunity to extort money and they do, get their hand slapped and then go to the next taxpayer. I guess no body really cares.. shame on us.

So what? It does not take a rocket scientist to do that job.

Like lawyers are the only people who knows what is legal or not. Remove the lawyers and we just may be able to get things done. What a novel idea, accomplish things instead of stonewalling!
