It is sad that by offering people a free place to "speak up", I get labeled as a business and shot to hell.

It's still a sales pitch, whether you're making money or not, even 'selling' an idea is considered spam in some perspectives.
viscop (quote) : 'Is there a more appropriate forum for something like that?'
night owl (quote) : yes, the events board is for local business/advertising.
I have nothing against locals trying to promote good things in or about Western New York, this topic is just a little out of place on the 'speak out here' board, that all.

You have taken offence to what I have said... I shot nothing down, I just said your topic would be more appropriate on another board- because you asked.
We pride ourselves on the fact that we are a free service to help people speak out and not a spam business, in fact making no money whatsoever, so when someone suggests we are a spam/busness and suggests that we get moved into the business/advertising section, it hurts. I would rather have no mention of the site on your site, than have the link in the business advertising section as I think it would send a really mixed message to people who find it.
The site itself is very similar to your speak out forum. The only difference is that the site is broken down by journal/user instead of by topic, alhough interlinking is allowed. By doing this we are trying to promote people getting to know each other through their views in a less anonymous way than a forum.

You’re requesting members who view this site not to get the wrong idea about your site, have you considered the elements of making sure people don’t get the wrong idea about this site?
Allowing people to promote their ‘business’ anywhere on the message boards will create havoc at speakupwny.com with the millions of others on the World Wide Web who wish to do the same.
The events board was designed for advertising purposes and promotional entities. I didn’t make that as a rule for this site, but from past experiences and for the good of SpeakupWNY.com, it’s a happy medium for all. This is a way for people to endorse their businesses, website, books … or whatever without taking up space in the other forums.
May I suggest this thread be moved there?Originally posted by Night Owl

After careful consideration and a small study, remember this is WNY, it's moved.
