Thumbs down Why is Lincoln Park still closed?

The park looks nice. The baseball diamonds are in use. The park hosted an event last weekend for camping, cookout, firetrucks ect. So what is the problem opening the park to the public instead of just a chosen few.

Appreciate the fact that Lincoln Park represents more than just a place to party or cook out.

Open or closed, the park acts as a buffer zone between the Lincoln Park Ghetto and civilized society. At present, it provides a line of demarcation between the savages that inhabit the Pearce & Pearce duplexes and the working class people who maintain their property and have a sense of decency and respect for others.

Travel one street East of the park you'll see hoardes of social-service parasites, rollin a dual baby carriages with twin welfare checks on board, while the sideways-hat wearin baby-daddy jaws on a cell phone while alternately sucking on a 40 ouncer and dragging off a blunt or Kool 100. Sadly, this cancer is metastizing and infecting established neighborhoods. No wonder you see a multitude of "For Sale" signs throughout the LP community.

Once the park is open, its just another venue for them to overtake and destroy. Keep it closed, or put up a gate and restrict it for taxpaying residents only.

It will never happen in NYS in our lifetime. THe "government" employees 1000's to work for the social service type departments. That's a lot of family members and patronage hacks they won't know what to do with.

I grew up in the Kenilworth/Lincoln Park neighborhood and I gotta say it's gotten alot more ghetto. How many times has that Wilson Farms at Lincoln Park Drive been robbed? There was a stabbing a few years ago right down the street from my parents.
I lived on Wendel Avenue up towards Kenmore Avenue. It was border territory but you could tell that "line". Yeah there were always the pockets of white trash on Hawthorne, Grandview, but those Pierce and Pierce apartments have always been doomed.
I can whole heartly agree with you on that. Those apartments should have been razed 15-20 years ago. They bring down the neighborhood and it's looking more and more like a new period of flight. I've also noticed the plethara of "For Sale" signs around the town.
Soon Lincoln Pool will look like Masten Pool. Sad, real sad.
I've heard from family that have kids in the Ken-Ton Schools that Ben Franklin and Ken-East are getting more "citiesque".
Now granted I reside in North Buffalo now, but I have been looking to buy in the Town but I'm having reservations. Sheridan Drive is currently the 38th Parallel in my opinion. However, soon neighborhoods like Green Acres are going to look like the Central Park Plaza area. It's only a matter of time unfortunately.

At a time in the not too distant past, the Allenhurst and Looney Acres neighborhoods of Amherst were populated with working-class citizens who maintained their homes, manicured their lawns and lived in relative tranquility.

In a period of less than ten years these two areas have fallen to the savages. Now, they are suburban ghettos, replete with white t-shirt wearing gang members, graffiti, drive-by shootings, spontaneous street brawls, 15 year olds carrying concealed weapons and every other scourge and vice that is spread by the uncivilized welfare parasite.
They poison everything they come in contact with; schools, neighborhoods, public services...the community will never be the same once the savage has established roots.

The urbanization of the suburbs has started, and for every savage that moves in, one or two decent families find a reason to move out.

Robberies? Here's a few in addition to Wilson Farms-by no means a complete list:

    1. Feras
    2. Big Johns Pizza
    3. Tonawanda Employees Federal Credit Union
    4. Englewood Avenue Credit Union
    5. Morton Lane Credit Union

...suspect description: black males armed with handguns.

There was a stabbing a few years ago right down the street from my parents.

Falk School, AKA Falk Correctional Facility, on the basketball court. See above for suspect description.

Houses that need a lot or work or updating are often bought by slumlords that rent them to Sect. 8

Green Acres is still pricey enough to keep the savage at bay. The problem in any hood, is the one or two houses on the block that are unkempt and eventually sell at below market value. This is when the scum begin to infiltrate. Once this occurs, it's usually a downward spiral.

You can still sit on a bench in the park......provided, of course, you are armed.

I have to speak up here... I live in Ken Ton and go to that park quite often... Never once have I been assaulted by a gang of hoodlums or harassed by someone "trashy." In fact I have had plenty of conversations with normal families whille our children play and people walk their dogs.

The duplexes are only a small part of the larger Lincoln Park area...

You guys are fear-mongering... Please stop because people start to believe it...

My friend from Williamsville believed it and was afraid to visit Ken Ton...

Until she finally did and saw how "Leave it to Beaveresque" the place actually was.

Life is what you make it.

I drove through the area a few weeks ago and for the most part Tonawanda did look "Leave it to Beaveresque". The area east of Lincoln Park is starting to look "questionable" but I doubt it will spread to the whole town because the areas immediately adjacent still look very solid. I hope more people like Achbek stay and keep it from turning into what those above are describing.

    Thanks Downstate...

It amazes and irks me how people will fear anything and everything if given the chance...

When we were looking for a house we were "warned" not to buy in Amherst on the other side of NFB because of Allenhurst... Not in West Amherst because of Looney Acres... Not in Cheektowaga because "it's too close to the East Side..." Not in the city because it's the city... But on the flipside, not in Williamsville because it is "too snobby." Not in North Tonawanda because it's "too trashy." The list goes on an on...

What are you supposed to do? Live in an underground bunker the rest of your life with nothing but middle income, middle of the road white people?

As for Lincoln Park, lots of times when we go there the place is empty and we end up having the whole park to ourselves... Could it be that everyone else "believes the hype" and stays home?

Unfortunately even if the areas in question are not what people perceive them to be, they will turn that way because new buyers avoid them. In an area with declining population and flat house prices people can choose to move to another neighborhood further out, rather than taking a chance on an area that is gaining a bad reputation. That is not true where I live because the high prices prevent you from trading up to a more expensive neighborhood, thus people stay and fight (successfully) to prevent it from going downhill.

A real estate friend of mind said that other agents are steering middle-class white families away from areas like West Amherst, Eggertsville, and Lincoln Park. This means that those areas are guaranteed to go down hill because they have been written off as mainstream areas by the real estate gatekeepers. Sad but true I hope you can eventually save your neighborhood from going down that path but you already have one major power against you.

He told me that outside of Downtown, The Elmwood Village, Delaware Park, Parkside, parts of North Buffalo, Colvin/Deerhurst Park, East Amherst/Clarence, Orchard Park/East Aurora and a few select other areas, much of the rest of the area will not physically survive into the middle of this century. Unfortunately, unless things change I think he may be right. I mean I remember 25 years ago when the eastside was declining but relatively intact. Now its a burned out shell. Don't give up the fight though, your corner of town could still be an exception.

There is no right neighborhood for everyone. If there was all neighborhoods would be the same.

What do the numbers tell you?
Are property values rising like in other neighborhoods in the area?
    Is crime rising?
    Are houses being "kept up"
What's your opinion on what the neighborhood will be like in 20 years?
What's the social make up of your community (And don't start screaming racism, cripes)!!!!!!! I'm talking about young families? Retirees? Or are you getting the single 22 year old mom with 14 kids from 12 different fathers and the "baby-daddy" coming over at 3am all the time?
Are you having a lot of "quality of life" problems (see N. Buffalo thread)?
