    Five Minute Updates.

I think that each Department head/director in the Town Of Amherst should be required to provide a 5 to 10 minute update at the podium at one evening town board meeting each and every month. The updsate would include a briefing and/or status report on the top activities and progress within their department since the last update.

As it is now, the public really doesn't get provided with what is going on.

I think this would help. Why wouldn't a department boss want to do such a thing?

Each department should already be giving status reports to the TB. Why not post these reports on the official web site, so that anyone who would like to see them can?

It would not take up the extra time at a board mtg, but still be available to the general public.

hahahahahaha.... I know of 2 departrment heads who submitted monthly reports for years and no one ever read them. So, they stopped. This idea will just be another bureaucratic requirement that no one will pay any attention to. This is why there is so much paperwork and bureaucracy in government.

I bet that those 2 department heads are no longer working for the town.

First, then you are saying Grelick did not read the reports, and she did not mandate that dept heads not give reports.

How can one run a business, town without knowing what the depts are doing?

This also goes to the present TB and supervisor.

If they do add this segment into Town Board meetings I will have to reconfigure my DVR to make sure I tape the entire board meeting.

I remember clearly that Grelick had a 'Breakfast with the Boss' monthly meeting with the Dept. heads. It was the other bored members who NEVER read or responded to the dept heads reports. Grelick was always on top of any problems that the dept heads encountered. In light of this incompetant administration, you should all realize how well-run the town WAS!

I agree, post them on the internet for all to see.

Why wouldn't a Department head (or their subordinates, for that matter) not want this done? The only reason that I guess this isn't being done is because the Town Of Amherst employees do not want it.

Good idea, but Who is going to do it? There should be disclosure with the public. The town already has Dept. heads that can't and won't do their duties. Do you think they will want to do anything else?

Whoever is in charge of the web site.

If the town uses word, then the person responsible for the web site can create an HTML file directly from word, or they can create a PDF doc then post to the web site.

Very little time is needed once it is set up..
